“best place to see the Northern Lights”
One of the best spots in North America to see the Aurora Borealis (i.e. the Northern Lights). It's recommended you rent the Eleazar Cabin. It‛s not just another million acres... The White Mountains National Recreation Area offers year-round activities. In the summer you can float Beaver Creek National Wild River through the most remote part of the White Mountains, hike and pick berries on the Summit Trail, or camp and fish at the Nome Creek campgrounds. White Mountains National Recreation Area is a National Recreation Area in the U.S. state of Alaska. The national recreation area is located to the north of Fairbanks between the Elliott Highway and the Steese Highway in the White Mountains, with about 1,000,000 acres (400,000 ha) within its boundaries. It is managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management as part of the National Landscape Conservation System. Beaver Creek flows through the area and is listed as a wild and scenic river. The fees collected from the cabin rental program are used to fund Lime Peak recreation facilities such as new cabins and trails, maintain existing recreation facilities, develop information signs and interpretive displays. Dog owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. Do not dispose of dog waste in the cabin outhouses. These public recreation cabins were established for non-commercial use only. The public recreation cabins are not available for use by commercial trapping operations except as a shelter in life-threatening situations.
Perfect spot to watch the Aurora. The cabin itself looks cozy, warm and comfortable.
