Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on July 28, 2023Scouted this on a drive-through. This campground is below the main highway, so steep road getting down into it. Most of the sites are pretty steep parking; better for tents. We noted site 17 could take our 26' rig. A beautiful setting, with a trail over to Silver Lake. Hand-pump for water. No cell service.

This was our first true boondocking experience. We arrived on a Monday, found a pull-thru site (#16) and after some finaggling were level enough to call it good. We have a 30' Airstream Classic and this was a nice spot overlooking a meadow and a small pond. Unfortunately, the Pine Beetle has really done some damage here and it was truly sad to see the already cut stumps of trees as well as numerous dead trees. You can only imagine what this place might have looked like years ago. The road getting into and navigating around Silver Lake is in good shape. We had very little problem maneuvering around. During the week it was busy, but not to the point of distraction. Come Friday afternoon, as expected, the traffic picked up significantly. During our visit it was fairly quiet (there was some road traffic from 130) but nothing horrible. The elevation (10,400') provided a really nice break from the heat with 70s during the day and low 60s, upper 50s at night. They have a water pump but it was pretty cloudy for our liking. The vault toilets were O.K., but were a bit stinky for our liking. We are self-contained so didn't have to use them luckily. This area in the Snowy Range is beautiful! We hiked down to Silver Lake with our yellow lab a couple of times and the lake is so beautiful! If you're in the area I recommend checking it out.

We stayed one night to be in the area for an appointment. This year, several campgrounds in the area went to reservation. We snagged a site that was free for the night. Water, trash, and pits are all available. Hike down to and around was great! Decent road noise as you set below, but it dies down at night. It's not our favorite camp in the area, but honestly, any of the campgrounds are a great place to stay.
