The location is close to Route 1, so there is a little road noise at times. There is a small airport nearby, so during the day small planes take off and land. So why does this still rate a "5" - atmosphere, cleanliness, access for paddling, location to visit in the area, and the park like setting. They have pull through sites that are not shaded and closer together and fabulous sites with shade and water views that are spread out in the campground. The numbers of sites and how many people allowed on the site keeps the noise level down. The owners patrol the area on a regular basis, but are not intrusive. When we stayed there, a daily paper was delivered to the campsite. On Saturday night the owners provided an ice cream social. The salt water pool was lovely. The campground overlooks a finger of the Black River, which provides paddling in protected waters. This is a gem of a place.

Great campground that overlooks water and marshes. Near a small general aviation airport but only saw one plane over 3 days. Very quiet otherwise. The view makes up for any noise. Only 3 others here during our stay in October, great privacy. No WiFi, verizon and T-mobile signals at 2-3 bars. 4 over the air channels. Bathroom and showers very clean. Great hot water and shower heads. 25 cents for 8 min on the shower.

Chewonki Campground is incredible!! This place is family owned, operated and cared for since the 60's. With stunning views, most of the sites are tucked into tree coverage with a manicured field for larger rigs. The facilities have you feeling like you've stepped back in time. The grounds are well manicured, inviting and quiet. Looking forward to our next trip to Maine.

Beautiful campground set along the tidal marshes and making improvements to utilities. The owners are fantastic and have a gem on their hands. Ground are very well kept and it's location is great to get out and explore Down East.
There are essentially 2 halves to the campground, 1 side nestled in the trees but without septic service, the other fully open (no trees, no windbreak, nothing between sites) with full hookups.
We experience widely varied weather during our stay from cool, foggy days to bright sunny ones. Being out in the open, we could rarely use our awnings as the winds are just too strong for comfort in either case.

Reservations were a little difficult because I had to make them by phone. I had to call back when they didn’t send me a confirmation. Check in was easy. The site was grass and fairly level. There is a picnic table and fire ring at every site. There is a pool, tennis court (they provide equipment) and playground. Antenna service was excellent with every major network. AT&T had 4 bars 5G. The camp WiFi was worthless (they didn’t even list it in their amenities). The camp is close to Bath where I recommend visiting the Maine Maritime Museum and skipping the town. Wiscasset is also close and is home to Red’s Eats (the world’s best lobster roll – always a long line there). Booth Bay and Boothbay Harbor are close, but I couldn’t find anything to see there. The camp is at the end of a runway but it is rare for a plane to take off and certainly not at night.
