We stopped to Czech out the egg, and wandered through the little town and discovered so many hidden gems! Wilson Old City jail is tucked away behind granny’s soda shoppe, and is worth looking at at! The town is a photographer’s dream if you appreciate quirkiness and older structures. The people are super friendly and worth chatting with!
Actual address: 2700–2744 Avenue D
Wilson, KS 67490
The address is 2520 Ave D, Wilson, KS 67490, not where the marker on this map is. It's in the town of Wilson :)
We were heading east and took exit 206. We turned right and stayed on that road until the first stop sign then we turned right again. The Czech egg is on the left side of the road between the big red barn and the large brick building. You can’t miss it. It also has a few signs that give some details about the egg. So glad we stopped to see it.
Nice stop! Beautiful setup with large information kiosk detailing the historical significance. Reading the other reviews, I’m sad we didn’t venture further into town. Next time!
Worth a drive by. Right off I 70 It is impressive to see.
Fun little break from the road. Decided to eat our picnic lunch there instead of rest stop. Walked around the little town to stretch legs. The old-fashion soda shop looked neat and the old nail was an interesting piece of history. Of course the egg was neat also.
Much bigger than I anticipated, and it’s a quick stop.
The egg was larger than we anticipated. It is situated in the middle of quaint Wilson. The locals stopped to take our photo and tell us about the history of the egg and Wilson! Definitely worth a stop.
We stopped here on our trip from KC to Colorado. We like visiting the world's largest things on our travels. This was a nice, quick stop, as the egg is beautiful. It's rich in history too. If we had more time I would have liked to had explored the town. The egg is 20 ft. tall by 15 ft. wide. The reason this is located in Wilson, KS is because a lot of Czechoslovakian immigrants (Bohemian & Moravian) migrated there for work. The shell is made out of fiberglass and weighs in at around 8,000 lbs. It was painted by over 50 local volunteers with more than 2,000 hours worth of work. It was dedicated in 2016 to celebrate their heritage.
