“19th c. living history museum!”
Cowtown is a living history museum where you’ll experience life in the 1870s. Immerse yourself in a sampling of the sights, sounds and activities common to a Midwestern cattle town. You’ll experience the dramatic clash of Victorian ideals and economic realities as these competing forces strove to create an economically viable cattle town and a Victorian metropolis.Try a wagon ride, hear the ring of the blacksmith anvil, and visit the humble home of the town’s founder, Darius Munger. Be sure to stop at the home of the Marshall Murdock, who single-handedly promoted the town through his newspaper. After you smell what the farmer’s wife is cooking for her family, try an ice cold sarsaparilla in the saloon…but be prepared to duck in the doorway as gunfire erupts in the streets!
Super pretty during the spring and early summer. They have an old farm house, dentist/doctor office, farming mills. Went here all the time as a kid to learn about old agricultural society. A must for Steam Punks! great photo ops. Very authentic and actually kinda big compared to others. Love it.
Went here with my son's 2nd grade class on a field trip. Very interesting Musuem! Lots of lots of neat old buildings and artifacts! Also we got a guided tour which was very interesting. One tour was to show what a farmers life was like, all the implements they used and how they put the hay up in the barn, also the grain elevator. The other tour was in a house where we were shown what the housewives lives were like. The cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. very interesting and our time was over way too soon! Highly recommend going here!
Really great place to capture a point in history! There are always special events taking place, so check out their website or Facebook page. Our favorites are the Old West days and Steampunk Day. So much to do! We highly recommend it for anyone who wants to step back into wild west days and get a view of life on the prairie!
