Confirmed by 24 users | Last reported on December 27, 2023We were told about this campground by a local rancher who referred to it as "the new campground at mile marker 9". This place looks brand new as of Jan 2019. Simple - just a cleared flat lot surrounded by a pipe fence, but the location was great to Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mtns NP, you have a view of the ridge, and it is free! Stayed here 6 nights and had the place to ourselves 4/6 nights - one night we had a van camp overnight on the other side of the lot from us and the other there was a tent camper. Quiet and peaceful - there is a little interstate noise but not bad at all as it is over a little hill.
There was no sign but assume 14 day stay limit. Pack in/pack out situation, no bathroom facilities, water, dump or garbage collection. Just a simple and convenient place to park it. Easy to get to - paved road right to it and very little traffic went by. Big rig friendly - no 4x4 or high clearance required.
Internet on Verzion and ATT was good, didn't have to boost and were able to stream no problem.

Great location for accessing the National Parks! Right off the highway, but not too much noise. Exactly what was expected - large dirt lot. There was plenty of room and we were the only ones there!
Only downfall was the harsh winds during the night that blew sand into our tent. Otherwise a great experience!

The others have pretty much said it all. This is a flat open lot. There are no amenities. The price is right, and the location is close to the national parks. You can hear a small amount of road noise, but it's minimal. The night before we parked at the roadside rest in Texas closer to Guadalupe Mtns; NP. We had a couple a semi trucks pull next to us with their diesel engines idling. Compared to that, Chosa is a dream.

But do not go this route shown in photos. Google sent us down a dirt road that I don’t think we were supposed to be on as when we got to the end to turn toward tgexsmogroubd it was barb wire fenced off and there were clearly “speed bumps” created in the dirt road that were motorcross style. If you go to the next road if going south than the road is paved. Just saying.

Large open leveled area. Plenty of space for many rigs but we camped with no more than three on any given night. Met great neighbors here! 15 minutes to the caverns and a half hour to Guadalupe Mountains. Perfect Boondocking! Doesn’t get much better!

We camped here for nights while we explored Carlsbad and Guadalupe Mountain National Parks.
Good location, close to both parks, very quiet, only a few other campers while we were here.

Dry camping, BLM. Near Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe National Park. GoogleMaps wanted to bring us the wrong way. The correct way to enter Dillahunty Road (at GPS 32.0911332,-104.4357585) from National Parks Hwy (U.S. Hwy 62). Big Rig friendly. No problems with my 45’ Tag Axle Motorhome flat towing a Jeep Wrangler. It really just a nice, large dirt lot, but a convenient location to Carlsbad Caverns National Park and Guadalupe Mountains National Park. T-Mobile was good for us 3-4 bars, able to stream without boosting.

Great campground! We stayed here for 4 nights while venturing around Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mountains National Parks. Camp area is fenced off from field although there are still free range cattle that may wander through! They do have trash pick up. We spoke with Tracy who worked for BLM, she mentioned they had just made this camping area in December. It was very clean and safe to leave your rig unattended. Any size rig will fit! Definitely recommend!

Was there 2/23/19 You can camp free at the Chosa site which is just a open parking area or you can continue up the road about a mile (Dillahunty Rd) and there are pull off sites you can also camp at. These sites are away from the main highway 180 and very quiet.
This whole area is well maintained and level so any size RV will fit. I had good cell coverage and right by the Carlsbad Caverns and a 15 min drive to Carlsbad which has Pizza, propane and Walmart. I was in heaven.
