The bridge, built in 1884, is the oldest surviving movable bridge in Connecticut and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The total length of the bridge is 87.5 metres with a deck width of 6.1 metres and a minimum vertical clearance of 2.1 metres above the river. The bridge carries an average of about 16,000 vehicles per day. In 2007, the bridge was named the William F. Cribari Memorial Bridge
Bridge was pretty cool looking... its just a bridge but the story behind it is pretty cool... we walked along the side and they have lights on the bridge... we didn't get to see them light up since we were there during the day... Fun quick stop to stretch the legs
Image is actually of the railroad bridge next to the Saugatuck River Bridge.
But, the SRB is a nice little small bridge that is terrifying when you first drive across it when you're new to the area. I have yet to see it open, and I'm not sure if it does move anymore. The area can get an eerie vibe to it early spring mornings when a heavy fog moves up the river and the roads are deserted.
If you're in the area, be sure to check out the Black Duck Cafe just around the corner from the bridge. It's an old barge on the river serving cheap bar food and drinks.
