Confirmed by 5 users | Last reported on August 14, 2022We planned to camp in Yellowstone National Park, but it was way too much crowded. We didn't want to wait 3 hours or more to get a campsite so we headed out of the park to find this beautiful and remote campsite directly at Hebgen Lake.
We just stayed overnight before rafting the next morning in Big Sky. The road in is seriously bad, like 5 mph washboard bad, at least in our 25 ft rental rv. There are four loops, one of which has electric hookups. Each loop has water spouts interspersed throughout, but only the one closest to the loop entrance is threaded. Each spot is wooded with a firepit and picnic table. Decent separation, not great. This is grizzly country, and there are bear boxes provided. Camp host was very visible and was selling firewood.
Lots o mosquitos made this less pleasurable than it could have been.

The road in was an uncomfortable washboard, and the road in the loop had huge potholes AND the redundant speedbumps made us angry. For this reason, we would not stay here again. In addition, though we were in the electric loop, the noise from generators in the adjacent loop was annoying. There was a lip between the loop road and the site, and the site was situated such that it was impossible to open the awning. On the plus side, the site was heavily treed and interesting with good common space, also heavily treed. The lake was large and beautiful, though there was a lot of lake weed. We enjoyed sailing on it. Theis close to the west entrance to Yelliwstone.

We liked this campground. Didn’t hear generator noise from electric loop. Camped over Labor Day weekend 2015. Site was roomy with plenty of space for trailer and truck. Area is well treed. Water spigots at each loop, but only spigot near entrance was threaded. Camp host visible, friendly, diligent about bear safety (store your food in bear-proof boxes at each site) and helpful. Paved loop was popular for kids riding their bikes. Lake nearby is pretty, but we didn’t boat so can’t comment on condition of lake. Road in/out is washboard rough! Campground is close enough to access west entrance to Yellowstone. We were visited by deer right after Labor Day after most folks had cleared out. Big negative is no dump. Vault toilets were clean enough, but I don’t like hiking to the john in the dark in bear country so our stay was limited by the lack of a dump station.

What a great campground. Totally nestled in the trees but WITH electricity! This was a new experience for us and I assumed that if it had electricity, it would have water too! NOPE! We have since learned and now plan accordingly. Thankfully we have a little pump to add water to the trailer if needed. They also have a fresh water filling station at the entrance to the campground (If we would have known before we setup!!!) It is a bit of a drive off a bumpy road then onto a dirt road for about 6 miles total off the highway. Obviously NO traffic noise! Just a 10 minute drive into town. Site C21 was a bit backward. It's a backin site, but the table and fire pit are on the same side as the electrical hookups, so we were walking around the back of our trailer to get there. Just a bit different. Vault Toilet. There is basically NO CELL SERVICE out here! It would flicker in once in a while, but just plan on being out of touch! Also bring the Bug Spray.

So to start off the road to this camp ground is dirt and parts of it had some nasty washboard so we took it really really slow to not beat up our toy hauler that is 43 feet long.
Once at the campground their is water at the entrance only. So while at the camp sites you will be 100% dry camping. There is NO dump station at the entire campground either.
The loops to the camp grounds had huge pot holes in them that were full of mud and water and after spending 5 hours washing and wax the toy hauler I wasn’t to please to be flinging mud up onto the toy hauler.
The camp site we got was nice and was able to fit our toy hauler with the slides out but not all the camp sites can accommodate large trailers and RV’s.
Once settled in at the camp site they have fire pits, table and a grill that swings over the fire pit. Camp sites are pretty close to each other so don’t expect to much privacy but if you get on the outter side of the loops they go straight into thick forests.
At night be prepared to break out the mosquito repellent. The campground sits within a 1 minute walk to a lake so the mosquito’s in late June when we camped were everywhere. We didn’t put on bug spray and all of us on night one were bitten at minimum 8-12 times.
The lake is nice and seemed like a great place to fish off the shore but we didn’t come prepared for the mosquito and had to abaonded our fishing. Also for licensing the lake sits in MONTANA, so make sure you purchase the correct fishing license.
At the campground we did not have any Verizon cell phone service on our iPhones or our home phone base station inside the toy hauler. In order to get service we walked down to the lake and stood on the shore where we were able to get 2 bars of 3G which allowed us to send texts and make phone calls.
Overall the experience wasn’t bad if you like camping in campgrounds. For us we like camping in open areas not in campgrounds so we probably won’t be coming back.

Great shady campground near West Yellowstone for easy access to the national park. Lots of mosquitos — thankful for our bug tent!! No cell coverage at the campsite. Water at the entry to the campground, and at the entrance to each loop, with additional hydrants spaced around the loops. Electric hookups. The vault toilet nearest us was really nice! Pleasant surprise. The road in was okay, take your time and enjoy the ride.

We had 3 sites in the B electric loop. We had campfires at night and the morning with no bugs. This was our launch site for seeing Yellowstone. Short walk to the lake. Road in is a little rough but not bad.

The mosquitoes were out of control. Otherwise, this place is amazing. Right outside of Yellowstone with electric hookups fcfs. The reservable sites were full for months before we got there but loop B was basically empty. We had no issues with our 36ft rig although we probably wouldn't have fit in all of them. Having 30amp in a site like this was great. The lake was beautiful and short walk away. Our kids swam but it was cold. It was a great a basecamp for Yellowstone.

Exceptional hosts. Quiet at night. Place was full. For my June arrival, had three spots to choose from on a first come first served basis. This was on a Sunday evening. Paid $18 for an electric site, with NP Annual Pass Discount. Firewood nicely cut and for sale, $6 per bundle, but it was predictably wet. Not a huge issue. The hosts were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Great spot not far from Yellowstone. Vault toilet in B loop was brand new. Water available near entrance on north side of road prior to the campground kiosk.
