Oxbow Nature Study Area is located on the Truckee River, one mile from downtown Reno. This site serves the public as the State of Nevada model for Wildlife Education and Aquatic Education programs offered by the Nevada Department of Wildlife. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service also recognizes Oxbow Nature Study Area as a national model for a successful urban nature center. The nature trail is approximately one mile long as it loops from the pond, through cottonwoods and willows, past grasslands, and back along the river. There are plenty of opportunities to view wildlife all year long within the Study Area’s 22 acres. Oxbow Nature Study Area is home to Black-crowned night herons, Red-shouldered hawks, mule deer, beavers, Rainbow trout, and more! Oxbow Nature Study Area is a partnership between the Nevada Department of Wildlife and the City of Reno Parks Department. Located right on the Truckee River, one mile from Downtown Reno, Oxbow Nature Study Area serves the public as the model for wildlife and aquatic education programs offered by the Nevada Department of Wildlife.
