“One of the largest collections of Native American artifacts”

The National Museum of the American Indian houses one of the world’s largest and most diverse collections of its kind. The museum’s sweeping curvilinear architecture, its indigenous landscaping, and its exhibitions, all designed in collaboration with tribes and communities from across the hemisphere, combine to give visitors from around the world the sense and spirit of Native America.

This was my favorite museum. This is definitely a museum that didn't try to overwhelm you with poorly arranged artifacts and historically-questionable displays. The modern, open floor plan and carefully curated objects and stories invited learning and reflection, not to mention the architecture is gorgeous. It was refreshing to see a museum that presented diverse and engaging exhibits that didn't focus exclusively on the past. Also, the food at the cafeteria was better than all of the other museums in the area.

The best museum in DC, hands down. The artifacts, the displays, and the overall layout is impressive. Another plus is that it doesn't seem to get overly crowded, which is nice, as you can really take your time to peruse the exhibits. What I like, too, is that they focused on the whole americas, rather than just North America. I can't recommend this place enough.

Beautiful building and amazing layout, but I wasn't the biggest fan. It was informative and entertaining, but nothing compared to some of DC's other museums. One positive was that the museum was not crowded at all the day I went. Maybe my opinion would have been swayed if I had eaten in the cafeteria, I heard afterwards that the food at the museum is so good, workers from across downtown Washington stream in to eat lunch there.

The best museum in DC, and completely free! Amazing collection, great set up, and a cafeteria that's definitely worth checking out! They have traditional Native American meals from all the different regions. It can be a little pricey, but it's worth it
