“visit the miracle mile!”
Experience the thrill of Rickwood's miracle mile of underground caverns! The 260 million-year-old limestone formations, blind cave fish and underground pool are just a few of the natural wonders exhibited in the colorful cavern. The park features an Olympic-size swimming pool, picnic area, large and small picnic shelter, hiking trails, playground, campground and gift shop.Rickwood Caverns is a recognized member of the National Caves Association, and offers more than a mile of living geology. The caverns themselves were water-formed during the Mississippian period over 260 million years ago. Rickwood Caverns still contains active "living formations," as mineral-laden water droplets build colorful structures and flowstones. Rickwood Cave reveals that it was carved from an ocean bed - shell fragments and fossils of marine life are clearly visible along the cavern ceiling and walls. Many curiosities are featured on guided tours of the "miracle mile" at Rickwood Caverns State Park.

Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on October 23, 2022We were looking to break up our run up from New Orleans and found this place just off I65. The Highland road into the park is narrow and steep, though not a problem with our 17' Casita! People here are very friendly and welcoming. A big highlight here is a beautiful cave which you can have a tour in for $17 per person. The Alabama State Parks had tried to close this park (it does need some infrastructure work) though there are new bathrooms and hot showers available. Water and electric hookups on the 13 sites. Also here is a large pool which operates during the summer months. Two trails one a fossil finding hike and another short loop which we road with our hybrid bikes. On site is a nice gem collection in the sparse office and store building. Children would like the gem finding slough during the summer.

Sites are tight and short. This is an older campground. The road in is narrow, but easily negotiable, but the campground loop tight on both ends. I saw a full timer with a 34 ft fifth wheel turn around and head elsewhere. We had spoke and he really wanted to camp here and see the caverns, but decided against it. Some sites are like spokes in a wheel where the entry points are very close to each other. We managed to stay hooked up for our one night stay, but were barely inside our space. Staff is friendly and the place is clean.
Only beef is that the dump station is on the camping loop and there is no turn out space, so you block the loop as you dump. Also, did not have a hose attached to the water, so you'll need to pull out your black hose.
If your rig is smaller like ours, you may like the place very much. It is tucked into nice, mature forest. The pool was not open during our early May stay, but looked very appealing with both a high and low diving board.

Employees were very friendly. Campground is small. Sites are small, close together & layout is odd. If campground were full, some sites would be difficult to get in or out. Our site was at an odd angle so had to pull out & turn around to get to dumpstation. While using dumpstation you totally block campground loop. The store is a gift shop. No real supplies. Bathrooms are modern but could use a scrub brush. Our 2nd night water pressure was almost nonexistent. Bout 11:30 had to turn ac fan on to cover noise of barking dog at one of the houses on the property. Campground was easy to find. It is convenient for our North/South trips thru Alabama.

Pretty quiet mid November at this small State Park. Around 15 water/electric sites, mostly level, and can fit any size rig as long as the park is not full. There are 2 short half mile hiking trails in the park. The Fossil Mountain Trail is pretty cool with lots of small caves and sink holes along it. The Picnic Loop Trail is more easily accessible, but not as good. The main reason to make the stop here is for the Rickwood Caverns. Its about a mile long one hour guided tour. Its $17.50 for people over 13, or $13 for campers. Kids are cheaper to free under 5. Its worth the money I thought. Had my own privet tour today and saw albino crawdads, a treefrog, and a half dozen bats up close.
There is a gift shop that sells limited food and nic-nacks. There is also a large pool with diving boards that is drained this time of year. Lots of picnic areas as well. The bathrooms and showers are clean and heated. Alcohol is prohibited here, so don't plan on drinking while you grill. The price would be $32 for one day, which is all you need here, then there is a $4.50 discount to $27 a night after that.

Beautiful little park. Stayed one week end of September.Friendly, helpful staff. Safe and quiet. New electric and water to all sites. Upgraded to 50/30/20 amp service. Sites 1-5 are best for smaller RV’s while 6-30 can accommodate larger ones. We were in site 7 in 35 foot motor home. Some of the sites are not level, most have gravel.Would recommend water pressure regulator, has high pressure. Standard daily rate of $39 and some change plus one time fee $4.40. They have discounts for seniors, disabled, veterans. My total was $ 151.50 for a week.

This is a very small campground - 13 improved sites (nine of these have 50 amp electric and can accommodate all sizes of rigs; four are designed for smaller units and have 30 amp electric) plus five primitive sites, which have communal water only (no electric). There is zero privacy/separation between the improved sites, which would make the unimproved sites possibly more appealing (but further from the restroom and it was pouring when we were there). Improved sites are gravel and include a BBQ, fire ring, and a very large picnic table. Rates are $16 for a primitive site/$29 for an improved site plus a $4.75 processing fee for the first night of your stay. Senior discounts are given.
The restrooms are functional and clean but basic. There was a leak in the roof from the pouring rain that could pose a slipping hazard.
There are a large picnic pavilion and two short hiking trails of about a mile each. We hiked the Fossil Mountain trail, which is very rocky. The main draw to this park is the cave. Tours are offered four times daily, January through November. If you camp, you receive a discount on the tour. The tour is worth doing.

Sites are tight and small, but are fine to park your camper and enjoy everything else. Came with 3 kids and we had a great weekend. Spent the morning touring the cave, and the afternoon at the pool. It was a great weekend getaway with the family. Bath houses were clean. There is a gift shop that has some snacks. Dollar general is 10 minutes away if you forget anything. We were given a gate code to get in/out after hours. Sites had 20/30/50 amp service and water. No sewer hookup. We would come back.

Arrival and check in was easy and painless. Rate was $25.50 with senior discount. It is a large state park but a small campground 13 rv sites that accommodate large to small rvs. Our site was #6 and it was ginormous! Space between sites was about average. Bathrooms were generally clean, campground type bathrooms with showers. Lots of water pressure and hot water in showers. I'm sure in the summer it's much busier with families coming for the caverns and the swimming pool. In October, the pool is empty. It was very quiet. All the staff we met was wonderful - friendly and helpful. If you come here, the caverns are really worth seeing - you get a $5 discount per adult if you stay in the campground. If we were in the area again, I would absolutely come back and spend more time here. The grounds are beautiful and well kept with walking trails.

Grounds are beautiful & well maintained. Level sites with water & elec. Dump station, bathroom & showers all nearby.. but so are your neighbors. All of the sites are stacked in one corner along with tent sites. Close site layout has some of the campers & trucks nearly encroaching on each other.
We visited during the “Wonderland under Warrior” with Christmas lights in the caverns. Beautiful & kids loved it. Trails, playground & picnic areas are all nearby cave entrance.

I'm and beyond angry at this point. These campsites are TINY, about 12 feet wide with NO buffer between you and the next site. If that wasnt bad enough (and it is) they don't enforce their own rules about how many vehicles, people, tents are at each of these miniscule sites. Last night the site 2 feet to my left had at least 6 vehicles and 15 people overflowing their site with one of those vehicles parked smack dab in the middle of the road so I could not get to my campsite until someone FINALLLY came out and moved it. Today the people to my right have set uptheir tents on my site because they did not have enough room for all their crap and vehicles on their site and they've been blaring a football game on the radio one foot from my trailer all night. Complained to the office and they do nothing. Please don't be as stupid as me and stay here unless parking your trailer in a parking slot in the middle of a huge tailgate party is your idea of camping.
