“tidepool heaven!”

A series of day trips of varying lengths along coastal routes in the Kalaloch area. These beaches stretch along the southern coast of the Olympic Peninsula, surrounding the resort village of Kalaloch (pronounced “kuh-LAYlock”). US 101 runs along the coast here, and a number of short trails descend from the bluffs to reach the broad and almost unbroken strand that stretches between the Hoh and Queets rivers. Day trips of any length can be undertaken, but camping on these beaches is not allowed.

Not the best tide pools I have seen on the Olympic Peninsula, but still very cool. The hike down to the beach from the parking area was only 325 steps for me. Not much to see on the beach itself but colorful rocks, hardly any shells. The view of Destruction Island is pretty!

Wear sturdy shoes that you don't mind getting wet, and look out for riptides and waves that can pull you under. The rocks are slippery! If you go at low tide, you can see the tidepools-- they're so fascinating! Starfish and anemones and all kinds of crazy stuff.
