Little River State Park Campground

We stayed four nights at Little River and used it as a base to explore nearby Waterbury, Stowe, and Burlington. We loved this park. The campground is about 3 ½ miles off Hwy 2 on a sometimes paved, sometimes gravel road – but it’s worth the effort! The campground is large with two major loops (B loop was closed after Labor Day) – both loops have a mix of sites that could accommodate large RVs, tenters, and some awesome lean-to sites with river views.

The staff were friendly, helpful and seemed to be always busy. Their care and efforts showed in the immaculate, well maintained sites, clean bathrooms and beautifully tiled showers. (Really, they looked like something out of a nice home – other than the bit where you have to put in the quarters. Lol). Even late in the season they had flower containers blooming by the bathrooms.

The park is deep in the woods and the sites are exceptionally well spaced and private. All of the ones we looked at had nice shade and we had no trouble getting level. Just don’t count on using your solar or satellite here! There is a dump station and water, but no hook-ups. In addition to the playground there is a small nature center, swimming areas for each loop, and a boat launch.

We chose Little River Campground for its proximity to the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory. That was fun, but it turns out there is a whole lot more going on around here. Don’t miss the cider donuts at Cold Hollow Cider Mill and excellent beer and food at the Blackback Tavern in Waterbury. The pub nachos and smoked bacon sweet corn mac & cheese may require a return trip to Vermont. In Burlington, we enjoyed the Island Line Trail (a 28-mile rail to trail) that extends for 3 ½ miles on a marble causeway into Lake Champlain. Lots of mountain bike trails in the area too.

We had only 2 bars of Verizon 3G unboosted and that wasn’t stable.

We really enjoy more open spaces and a view of the sky. A clear unobstructed sky also helps with our solar system.

This state park is well maintained but too wooded for us. Very few spots have and unobstructed view of the sky. Most sites are deep within the trees. If you're counting on solar, it's going to be a bit of a challenge.

The road into the state park is a mix of pavement and hard pack. Even the pavement looks like it had a rough winter with large potholes. As you approach the park, there is a pretty steep incline. Yes, the park is at the top of the hill.

We were in the A loop. Bathroom had not been remodeled and is showing its ages. Park cleans every site after someone checks out (11:00). Park rakes each site and cleans the fire pit.

Sites are hardback and a little uneven. We had plenty of space between our site and the neighbors. There is a lot of coming and going in this park. Lots of tents. I would NOT rate this Park s big rig friendly. Our rig is 30' and I don't believe it can handle much larger. There is a small dump and fresh water just past the entrance.

Beautiful campground. Make sure you are comfortable with driving 3 miles on dirt road/pavement. We had site 12 on the A side and it was a great location - right by water service and bathrooms. Showers are coin operated but functioned well. Ice and wood only available during 10-6. Beach was great. Would definitely stay again. Wish we had kayaks.

Had a great stay here. The site was very level and very private. We could not see another camper from our site. The bath house was clean and large with coin operated showers.

* Near Waterbury, VT. Park access road begins just outside town but is then 2 miles of “good” dirt road which
becomes a mile of poor asphalt road in the park. Last mile is steep in places.
* Campsites have no electric.
* Water spigots are widely distributed within each of the camping areas. Spigots are not threaded and would
be a challenge with Water Buddy due to size and shape.
* Potable water at dump station. Fill your tank before proceeding to your campsite.
* Dump station water had hose connection for flush. Station connection is 6-8” above driveway.
* First restroom in “A” area was old and small. Appears they are trying to keep it up and appeared clean.
Perhaps dated from the 40s.
* We stated in Site 2 one night in the “A” area. Classic highly wooded state park campsite. This description
likely fits every site in both areas to some degree.This and all sites had a fire pit or fire place and a table.
Sites looked level for the most part.
* The restroom in Area “B” was younger and in better shape, clean. Dates from 60s?
* We stayed one night in site 78. Very nice, private. Our small camping trailer fit great. Not good for units
with slide outs.
* Note that the drive from the gate to Area “B” is close to another mile.
* Poor Verizon, 1-2 bars with reliable phone and SMS messaging but poor internet.
* This is a campground for small trailers, Class B, small Class C, and tenters.

There is water, bathrooms with showers. Lots of privacy on spacious sites. It's full but quiet.

We camped here in our camper van. The sites do not have water or electric. The area is very wooded and the sites have decent separation. The dump station does have potable water with a threaded hose connection. Some of the road is steep in places but it is paved. Getting to the park requires about 2 miles on mediocre gravel.

Beautiful State Park. Sites are spaced out and showers reasonably clean.
