“253-acre park”

Button Bay, a 253-acre park, is located on a bluff in Ferrisburgh along the 130-mile long Lake Champlain. Historically, the area has been visited by such notables as Samuel De Champlain (1609), Ethan Allen (1776), Ben Franklin (1776), and Benedict Arnold (1777). What once operated as a farm, opened as a state park in 1964. The park is so named for the button-like concretions formed by clay deposits found along the shoreline. The camping area is generally an open, grassy area overlooking Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains to the west. There are 73 sites including 13 lean-tos and 2 cabins. Flush toilets, hot showers ($), picnic areas and a dump station are provided. The park has a play area and a swimming pool with lifeguards. Boating (canoe, kayak, and rowboat) rentals are available, as well as fishing and sailing which are popular on Lake Champlain. You can explore Button Point Natural Area, a small mature hardwood forest, hike the trail, and visit the Nature Center.

With all the rain this summer they have to keep closing sites so some are very wet. Sites were huge which was nice we were able to park on the front of ours to avoid the pond on our lot. The road kinda drops off onto the grass so with trailers can make it difficult with the bend. My dad actually busted his window from the front of the trailer hitting his Tono cover. We both were nervous to get stuck leaving after the day before was complete rain. We made it out but was very very wet and muddy. Nice location on lake. Cons: generators can only be used from 8-10am and 4-6pm. Even quiet ones. Would be nice for longer use during the day. Pavilion for rent was super nice and large. Didn’t use pool (first day was closed due to no lifeguard availability and second day we had plans). Playground looked nice for the kids. Bug sprays and citronella candles were no match for the mosquitos. Some of the largest mosquitos we’ve ever seen and they would literally fly above the flames without a care in the world! Showers require quarters. Clean but just a lot of bugs in the shower areas. Had hot water when we used them. Dump station for trailers was convenient.

This would be a 5 star park aside from one unfortunate issue. The park is beautiful and green, with glimpses of Lake Champlain from the campground and a fabulous view out at the point (also a great swimming spot). Sites are large and level. Loop 1 sites are more private but loop 2 is very pretty and sites are so spacious I didn’t miss privacy. Facilities are well maintained with nice hot showers ($1/10 min).

However, the wind shifted halfway through our stay and we could smell all the dairy farms in the surrounding area. They are attractive but manure aroma is a downside.

The park was well maintained with nicely spaced sites. The first loop was more private, but the second loop had some views of the lake. There is a pavilion and small playground. The only hiking trail was one mile and was nice. We found it to be a good base camp, but the park has little to do onsite unless you bring a kayak. Two to three bars of Verizon, but I used the cell booster to stream video. The Lake Champlain Maritime Museum is a mile away, also a good restaurant nearby. Very quiet and mostly empty of other campers.

Level spots, lots of room. Sites T47-T56 and directly on the lake, if you can get those. Facilities are all very clean. It’s a bit of a drive to get anywhere, but ideal if you just want privacy and quiet.

We stayed here for 2 nights in September of 2022. Our site was just a long back-in on grass, but with a BIG drop off from the road. Our Imagine 17MKE is less than 22' and our truck is long, but we had a hard time backing in without scraping our stabilizers. We had to go at a very odd angle to get in - not fun. This site would be better suited for tents with that drop off. The lakeside sites were very nice! And the ones on the inner circle decent too. Nice walking & pretty place. Our nightly rate was averaged over the two nights including any out of state surcharges and / or reservation fee.

T33 and T35 Worst Spots, one tiny Tree with no privacy. A Fire Pit in A Big Grassy Area. The Outer Sites Are Better with Some Trees and privacy. The Bath House Charges For Showers so bring Quarters If You Plan To Use The Showers. Lovely Lakeside Location. Pool And Playground Look Nice Too Though We Didn’t Use. short bike or walk on a gravel path to the point and nature center.
