“sleep under the stars”
The salty charms of the sea will delight guests to this new KOA, an island camp-ground with more than 400 RV Sites, Deluxe Cabins and Tent Sites spread across 200 acres of woodlands with views of the lighthouse on neighboring Assateague Island. Themed weekends and kids' activities get the fun started. Explore the surrounding coastal towns, beaches and bays: It's an easy walk or bike ride to shops, restaurants and museums, and it's a short drive to family attractions such as NASA's Wallops Flight Facility. Enjoy the Main Street shops and restaurants, where fresh sea-food comes with beautiful views of Chincoteague Bay. This KOA is just minutes from the entrance to Assateague Island National Seashore, famous for its long strands of undeveloped sandy beaches and the wild horses that roam here.
We used to love this place. Not because of the facilities, they aren't that great, but because of the location. Staff is still friendly, but this spring we noticed pitbulls all over the campground, and some not well behaved. Half the sites were ripped up and the place was a mess. There is not clear indication where sites end and begin. However, your can't beat the location if you like to walk, bike and the go to the beach.
Great pool and bounce pad for the kids! Ice cream man and watermelon man too! Also, they have a jetty lookout to the lighthouse and it is just a few minutes from the state park with wild ponies!!
Very nice camp ground. Almost empty during this week in April. We love it. Directly across marsh from National Park. Little on pricy side but all new facilities with improvements still in progress. We will definitely return in fall when summer season is over. Love being retired and can travel to these places when crowds are not around.
