“within two hours of Chicago”
Simple pleasures like Saturday night summer hayrides or joining in a game of candy bar bingo abound at this country retreat. Have the kids dip a line into the children's fishing creek or tool around on rented pedal karts. Sun worshippers choose among plenty of sunny campsites, while shade-lovers settle under leafy oaks. Just 5 miles south, the deep canyons and towering moss-covered bluffs at Starved Rock State Park will make you feel as though you've left the Prairie State altogether. Hike up to 13 miles of marked trails along canyons with splashing waterfalls. At nearby Matthiessen State Park, hike up to 5 miles of vigorous trails with unusual, beautiful rock formations. Enjoy restaurants, shopping and golf in the area. Pool: Memorial Weekend - Labor Day Weekend. Max pull thru: 70 feet. Your hosts: Dave & Linda Waszak.
KOA - Lasalle / Peru campground is our favorite spot to camp once in a year. The small houses are always in great condition, the location is within two hours from Chicago and right next to a lot of great canyon sites.
There is always something to do there including playgrounds and bird watching programs/ fishing for the children to get involved. The staff is always cheerful and helpful.
It is dog friendly, it is a quiet place to relax and the restrooms and showers are clean for everyone to use.
Great escape, within nature. Enjoy
We love camping here when we need to get away. The faculties are clean and the hosts are gracious.
I'm willing to say that I might have just timed my visit poorly. There were 2 inches of standing water in the middle of the campground and we couldn't really go outside because of all the mosquitos. The creek was really pretty, but we couldn't enjoy it without getting eaten alive. The turns are really tight and my 38' 5th wheel wasn't going to make it around some of those turns. Luckily I used some empty campsites to make my way out. Not sure I would stop here again.
