Cove Fort Historic Site

Stopped in to stretch our legs and learn about some of the local history. They did not disappoint. This place was of museum quality & deeply fascinating. It’s too bad some other reviewers took cheap shots at the Mormons who give the tours. I, personally, eschew organized religion, but I also feel it’s disrespectful to walk up into someone’s ‘house’ and then talk shit.

Neat place to see. It is run by the Mormons but they were all very nice and didn't try to convert us or even ask for a donation. They even gave my 4 year old a little wooden toy.

We were tired and looking for a break. The rest stop sign took us past this old fort. This ended up being a nice little side tour. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable is western settlement history. The picnic grounds we're emasculate and the restrooms were clean. It's a good way to take an hour break from the road.

A great spot to have lunch, stretch your legs, and learn as much history as you want to listen to. Very friendly experts who know the history but were happy to let us tour on our own. The telegraph room was my favorite; it’s telegraph machine would receive messages as you viewed the room. The telegraph was the reason the fort was constructed. Shortly after an ongoing drought, food and livestock were starting to go missing and the decision to fortify the area to secure families, travelers, and the expensive telegraph system that had previously been built at Brigham Young’s request. The kitchen and dining room, and family bedrooms have also been furnished with period furniture to be as authentic as possible. Clean, air conditioned public bathrooms were available, too. I recommend you bring a picnic lunch.

The sight said it was open until 8 pm but when we arrived it said closed and was blocked by a gate. It was also on a Sunday. It was very easy to find, only 2.3 miles from the interstate and lots of signs.

Closed today. During covid. And it is not the log cabin at the chevron station! Keep going down the road!

The Mormons running the site do not like fur babies. A woman ran over as soon as they saw our dogs and informed us the dogs are not allowed on the grass. She directed us to a place at the edge of the property. This was a gravel spot with no shade. As we waked over there the woman followed us reminding us to keep the dogs off the grass. It was 90 degrees
and the dogs paws were so hot. This woman wanted us to put the dogs back in the car before looking at the historic site. This site is a very simple all outdoor fort in the middle of nowhere with, no exaggeration, 20 posted no parking signs in front.
We could have kept the air on for our pups butt the whole place seemed so unfriendly, we could not wait to get out of there.

Great tour guides! The guides were very knowledgeable about every aspect the fort! We learned a lot! They were very respectful of our time! The details put into reconstructing each of the rooms was amazing as well as all the information given by the guides!

Interesting and informative tour. Sweet to kids and GREAT bathrooms with changing tables.
