“also known as Red Canyon”

Red Canyon, or as locals call it: Peek-a-boo, does not require any hiking to get to, but instead is an adventure that has the thrill of 4-wheeling on deep sand through a desert landscape of junipers, pinions, yuccas and cacti. The trip culminates with an easy stroll through a slender passage that will tantalize photographer and hiker alike with a visual array of warm reds, cool browns and hot oranges windswept into rippled and fluted sandstone walls. This is not the Peek-a-Boo slot canyon found in the Escalante area.

It looks like a great adventure, but you're not going to find it with this waypoint.

To get there you need to stay on HWY 12 just south of the city of Escalante. Then look for BLM200 (Hole-in-Rock Rd). You will take that dirt road for 26 miles, turn left on BLM252, and take that for 2 miles. Park hike down to the slot canyon and have a great time!

Absolutely stunning hike, that is far better than Antelope Canyon in Arizona. No tourists here, and you will be completely alone. In order to reach this canyon you MUST cross private property. PLEASE contact the owners before hand, or at least knock on their door to ask permission. They are already becoming hesitant to let people through because they have had troubles with hikers harassing their livestock/trashing things.
The trail loop consists of Lower and Upper Red Cave, both of which are incredible beautiful. Bring lots of water, if you want to do the full loop, small down-climbs are required. You are all alone out here, so don't do anything stupid. Unique wild-life to be seen if you're lucky (I encountered a bobcat cub out here).

Used to be nice. Total tourist trap now with lots of visitors. Very hard to get to. Loud ATVs everywhere. Short slot canyon.
