Mohegan Sun Casino

This had the potential to be one of the most scenic parking lots we've ever stayed at. High up on a bluff overlooking the Thames River we thought oh wow this is going to be good. Except the parking lot is on such a steep slope that even with all our leveling blocks we couldn't get anywhere close to level in any of the spots that had a water view. We ended up parked awkwardly sideways in the middle of the lot with all our blocks propping us up on one side, and we still had to sleep on a slant.

Aside from the lack of forethought that went into designating the RV parking on a hill, this was a convenient place to spend the night. When you drive in there are signs that clearly mark where to park. Within 30 minutes security came to register us and we were set for the night.

We did not visit the casino but saw the shuttle bus come around every 20 minutes or so.

We wanted a place to stay for just one night, and decided to try the Mohegan Sun Casino RV lot, figuring that a free lot for the night beats paying to stay some where. I agree with previous reviews, that the view over the river is really pretty, especially in the Fall with the change of the foliage. We arrived around 6:30 pm, and all of the spaces on the river side of the lot were already taken, so we tried to find the most level location we could. We parked on the perimeter of the lot, nearest the road that leads into the casino. We were able to get level with just two leveling blocks, and the sound of the passing cars really did not bother us once we turned our stereo on low volume.

The security guard who came to check us in was extremely friendly, and we saw security cars drive through the lot frequently. The shuttle to the casino ran every 20 minutes, all day and night. Permits are good for up to 7 days of free camping.

There are no amenities other than the shuttle to the casino, but that's what you expect for free camping. We would definitely stay here again.

This is a very nice casino boondocking spot. Can stay for 7 days. Do need permit. I printed from their site and filled out. Security came by shortly after to pick up. He did say if needed to stay longer it was not a problem but needed new permit. We are in a class A and it was not a problem finding the rv lot nor a spot. We were here over Memorial Day weekend with about 100 more campers. Security was on site at all times. Beautiful view of river, clean, easy access and free. Only downside was parking lot not level. Also Being a holiday weekend lots of cheap and loud generators.

Stayed 3 nights in RV parking at Mohegan Sun Casino. No hookups. Needed every block in our repertoire to get us level. Perched on a bluff overlooking the Thames River was just delightful. We had people running generators at all hours. Left the windows open at night never needed generator. Security 24/7 Shuttle to and from Casino 24/7. Good spot to explore Mystic, Connecticut and points there about.

It is boondocking so there are no facilities or hook ups, but the security staff is very nice. The shuttle comes by every 20 minutes or so if you want to go to the casino. Security also rides by frequently so you feel safe.

This spot has a Lot to offer.

This is full fledge Vegas style casino with a bit of everything for everyone.

Parking was free.
Registration with security was super easy just call and they come right over and give you a paper for your dash.

The lot they are using now is across from their medical center/tribal office.

It was quite quiet for a casino lot.

Just watch the drink prices inside. Beers were $12.

Went in November and the normal RV lot along the river was closed, took a while but we found someone to ask and they told us to go to the winter parking area. Once there, security checked us in and we parked by some trees at edge of the parking lot. Four other RV’s were there and a few trucks. Noise was negligible.
It was a bit of a hike to get to the casino, fortunately it wasn’t too cold.
Overall it wasn’t a bad spot with easy access to rt 95.

We absolutely loved it here! Best place for free camping in Connecticut easily! The whole process was smooth, from security checking us in through our whole stay. Plus leaving and coming back to stay a few more days because we just couldn’t get enough of this place!! So much to do in the area. Plus the casino itself was like walking in Vegas for the evening! The weekend while we were there we also got to join in on the BBQ fest which was such a treat! We would come back just to come stay here! The only negative thing I can say about this place is the parking lot is extremely unlevel.

As a rarity on the east coast, we were able to find a place to boondock in the parking lot of the Mohegan Sun Casino. Parking is permitted up to 7 days at a time, by permit only. The permit is free and can be found on their website.

We gave them a call to let them know we were there and they told us where to go to park. We were told to turn on our flashers and wait. Security came by a short time later and checked our permit, licenses, registration, etc. and gave us a paper to put in the window.

The parking lot is not level and we ended up popping a zerk fitting on the gooseneck hitch as we were detaching.

We visited the casino to purchase some food. It was just ok, but very overpriced for what you get.

There were probably another 15 RVers enjoying the free spot to overnight at the lot as well.

Our Verizon phone signal was at 3 bars. Starlink was downloading at 118 and uploading at 11.

One of my favorite free spots. Lot is big and slopes a little, but you can find a spot. There is a number to call to register when you get there. Have your license and registration ready. Was told you could stay five days. Used to be seven, but some jerk dumped their gray water and ruined it for others. That’s what I was told. Security is 24/7 and right across the street. Yale/New Haven walk-in clinic is on one end of the parking lot. Very friendly staff. Would stay again.
