Crabtree Falls campground is 1/2 mile from the base of Crabtree Falls, which is the tallest waterfall east of the Mississippi. An uphill 2 1/2 mile hike to the top of the falls will take you to a beautiful over look of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Tye River is a peaceful, usually slow flowing river which is full of large rocks which form little waterfalls and swimming areas.

Loved this spot! It's about 30 minutes off the highway an completely worth the drive. We talked to Dave when we checked in and he couldn't have been nicer! Got a quiet camp site right next to the river, firewood and kindling available, easy access to clean restrooms. Absolutely beautiful place and I'd go back in a second!

Nice staff. Right on the side of the road and about half a mile from the falls. Parking is very close to the sites if not on the site itself. No close store except what is on site, very minimal. No cell service.

Stayed here in Summer 2020. I feel almost like I shouldn't share this review because this is a special place and I don't see any reviews. You have to call in for reservations but they were easy to do. The campsite is right on the river and while it took a little bit of a drive to get to the site it was ALL GOOD. Had a 24' class b that fit perfectly in one of the FHU RV sites but anything over that would not have worked so make sure you call and discuss. Saw fireflies and walked down and played in the river which was literally right there! What a wonderful site, very rustic and engaged with nature. You will not regret staying here. Listened to the river all night long.

Incredible forest campground with a nice cold mountain stream running along the rear of the property where the tent camping areas. The RV sites are a bit tough to get into, and is best suited for popup style campers, but we were still able to get our 16' Jayco hybrid into them. The sites are pretty narrow with a few obstacles for taller campers, but with some back and forth and clever maneuvering we were able to get setup. From what I could tell, power and water connections (no sewer hookups) were split between 2 sites. This made hooking up a little weird as our power connection was on the opposite side from normal (bring an extension cord!) . The sites themselves are pretty well kept and feature rock firepits with no grill racks or standalone grills (bring a grill rack for fire cooking). The bathhouses were a bit run-down and not exactly the cleanest, but not filthy, with smaller stalls and showers that don't feature a private changing area. Overall, I gave the campground a 4 as it is just beautiful scenery, really quiet, and the owners are very much animal lovers (be sure to ask about the cats). They do have a small store that is lightly stocked, have firewood for sale on site, but I recommend bringing some oak as it appeared to be hit or miss for hardwoods (they had a bunch of pine and poplar, but little oak).

We tent camped at site T-3, right on the river! The primitive campsites are kind of close together, but there was no one else there so it was very private. Fell asleep and woke up to the babbling of the river, put my feet in the water, awesome. Not 5 stars only because the ground is a little hard, but that's standard anyway.
