“he friendliest stop on I-40.”

As of April 28, 2022, the Simoneau family took ownership of this fun, historic campground. While traveling the long stretch of I-40 between Amarillo and Albuquerque, you'll come across an oasis known as Tucumcari / Route 66 KOA. This KOA Journey campground has all the conveniences needed for an overnight stop, including long, level Pull-Thru RV Sites with updated electric service. All full-hookup sites include cable TV, and every site has a strong Wi-Fi signal. No RV? Stay in a cozy Cabin with spectacular views of Tucumcari Mountain. Dogs love the shaded KampK9. Get fueled up with breakfast delivered right to your site. Cruise down Historic Route 66 to see neon lights and wonderful murals or just relax by the pool. Pool: Memorial Weekend (we hope) - Labor Day Weekend. Max pull thru: 100 feet. Your hosts: the Simoneau family.

Over heard staff talking negatively about new campers that were coming in. They left the wallis talkie at the front door so guests could call the staff to come open up the store.although the only thing is they forgot to watch what they say over the walker talkie. Pool was nice.
When we did go into the store they felt the need to ask what we wanted. Obviously we came into to buy souvenirs. He felt the need to let us know that they were closed for that hour (5) but he would let us come in. Need better customer service

I would give a zero if possible. I am a gold member with KOA because I have stayed so many times. This is by far the worst one of all !! The bathrooms were dirty, the pool is the size of a hot tub & the owners were rude.

Campground was spacious and had a nice view of the mountains. Bathrooms were clean but shower water pressure was extremely low.

Hospitality is priority one with the staff. Clean grounds and level spaces. Spaces are pull through and gravel. Beautiful views of the highlands. Great food with delivery! Will come back on our journey eastward. Easy on and off I40.

Warning to dog owners staying in Kabin 2, turn in the stained, microfiber sheets when you check out or you may be accused of stealing them.

We checked in on the night of Jan 3rd, left morning of Jan 4th on our way to Missouri on I-40. Campground owners called us in Amarillo and said they were missing the sheets that they have in the cabin to put on the cloth mattress covers before letting dogs on the bed. This is one fitted twin microfiber sheet that fits the bottom bunk, and a twin flat sheet with yellow stains that is supposed to go on the double bed but isn't big enough to tuck in around the mattress.

We were flabbergasted and told them the sheets were in the cabin when we left. They said their son had cleaned the cabin and said they weren't there, and he said the bottom bunk was "covered in dog hair". If they would have said the double, it would have been understandable because, as said, the sheet wasn't big enough to tuck in around the mattress. But we put the sheets on before we even brought the dogs into the cabin, so there was no way there was dog hair on the bottom bunk, at least not our dogs' hair.

The owners apparently didn't believe we hadn't taken their sheets and said we'd be invoiced for them. My husband, just to be polite, said "Well, if we find them when we get home we'll definitely send them back" and the owner said, "Oh, you'll find them".

A few hours later we're at a Walmart in Yukon, OK. Guess who calls? Tucumcari KOA. They found the sheets, but they say they found them in the dryer from the day before, so they "have both sets". What? There's no way our sheets were in the dryer from the day before so this makes no sense whatsoever.

The owner says "We won't be invoicing you". Well, GEE, ya think? Since we never took your sheets?? They offered NO APOLOGY.

So dog owners, be aware. Be sure to check for existing dog hair on the mattress cover (shouldn't these be taken off and laundered between customers?) and alert the owners if found, and be sure to take the dog sheets up and turn them in when you check out and get a receipt.

TL;DR - Owners accused us of stealing stained microfiber dog sheets, never apologized when they found sheets some hours later, take sheets to checkout to be sure you don't get the same treatment.

Tucumcari was the first on a number of KOA stops for me through Texas. I was working during the day and driving 2-3 hours each night to get through the state. It sounds crazy, but it worked. This spot was totally decent. The staff was super sweet and let me pay for a late check out so I could work during the day. The internet was good, the bathrooms were clean (though no hot water in the shower and I didn't have time to ask them why so perhaps it was just off during the middle of the day).
I didn't get to partake in the breakfast or dinner but they offer it and I thought that was great! Well stocked store and did I mention that the staff was sooo nice?

Many of the sites share a front yard. Not my ideal situation but it was only for one night. The space between sites is typical KOA standard. There are a quite of few shade trees which made it nice. There is a dinner menu with mostly pizza and sandwiches and a breakfast menu which was fairly extensive. The bathrooms were dated but were very clean during my stay. The owners were very nice and accommodating. I didn't hear any road noise or not enough for it to bother me in anyway.
