“an RV park for adults bordering the desert”

Our park was built and opened in 2008 on land owned by the Justin family since 1930's. Borrowing on experience garnered from the construction of Desert Trails RV Park (which we formerly owned) a new park was developed from raw desert land with spacious lots which are the largest sites in Arizona within the private sector. Our 128 40' ultra-wide sites can accommodate the largest of RV's on the road. All sites have full hookups located in the left rear of the site as dictated by local building codes. The interior roads are paved according the the same code as dictated by the AZ DOT and the sites are gravel. Our guests enjoy a quiet stay free from city lights, highway traffic noise, rail and most airplane disturbances ( we can't shut down the occasional daytime USAF flyover). We, "Doc" and Christine Justin, as your hosts, welcome you to share in the pleasure of camping aside 40,000 acres of desert. We offer hiking and biking trails originating from our location, birding, spectacular sunsets and the occasional sighting of desert wildlife. Make us your home away from home to enjoy the many and varied features and activities that Tucson, AZ has to offer. Nesting snowbirds as well as those simply flying by are welcomed to share in the camaraderie that only RVer's know.

March 2018 on the way from New Mexico to Las Vegas, stayed 2 nights at this lovely RV Park, $20.00 per night with Passport America. There are trails that go straight to Tucson Mountain Park and Saguaro National Park right from this RV park, Pixie our Jack Russell Terrier and I took advantage of these beautiful trails. See photo!

This is a 55+ park and very peaceful. Sites are fairly level gravel with some trees and landscaping at each site. The pull-through sites near the road are saved for over-nighters with the wider back-in sites at the top of the park being much nicer. Many back up to the desert with trails right from the park. Lovely owner takes pride in the property. Mail service available, laundry, restrooms, clubhouse with regular activities. Nearby Tucson Mountain Park, Tucson Desert Museum, Saquaro National Monument, and Old Tucson provide plenty to do. Road in from I-10 is a bit rough, but access is easy for any size rig. All sites have 30/50 amp FHUs. We didn't use the WiFi, but it is available. No cable. We want to come back for a much longer stay. This is a Passport America with some reasonable restrictions. We stayed in December and paid $19/night.

We needed a place we could get mail/packages delivered within driving distance of Saguaro NP. Justin’s Diamond J RV Park fit the bill, but the real draw was the extensive network of hiking/mountain biking trails that we could access right from the campground.

The RV park has several sections, the best spots are in the back – especially the “desert view” sites that back to up open land. Sites are gravel, roads are paved. In the back, there is vegetation between sites and the spaces are very large – 2000 sq. feet. The sites in the front are closer to the road (more noise), have little/no vegetation and are closer together. Most sites are back-in, although there is a row of pull-through sites in the front.

The park is immaculate and the owners/staff are very friendly and helpful. This park is designed for self-contained rigs. There are no public restrooms/showers. All sites are full hook-up, so no separate dump station. Rental units are available.

Amenities include mini-golf, club house with library and BBQ patio, pickleball court, bocce ball, horseshoes, and laundry facility. There is a dog run, but the park brochure mentions breed restrictions. And, of course, the miles of trails! There are several well-marked loops or you can connect with trails in the adjacent Gilbert-Ray municipal park.

Note: Only cash or checks are accepted – no credit cards. Discounts include GS and PA as well as weekly, monthly, annual rates. We were given a preferred site with a daily rate of $34 which was discounted to $20 for two nights with our PA.

We had 3 bars of Verizon 4G unboosted. Park’s Wifi is open and worked ok most of the time.

We stayed here as an experiment. We saw that there was good access to the surrounding desert as the north end of the park adjoins the Saguaro NP. The only space for my 40' class A RV was in the south row, next to the road. The road is noisy with passing traffic day and night. The neighborhood dogs bark most of the night. But the desert on the north end is beautiful and very accessible. I had to trim the mesquite on the driver's side to get my slide out. Management said it was OK. They had been meaning to do it for some time. (Hah!)

We stayed here in January during the busy part of the year and the park was about 2/3 full. This park has easy access to mountain biking and walking with the dogs - literally walk/ride out the back of the park and you'll come to the Tucson Mountain park.
I listed it as no frills since there's no cable TV, no bath house, no picnic tables and no pool. But those things didn't matter for us. They did have laundry at $1.75 a wash and $1.50 a dry and the machines worked well. There is WiFi but since it's fed by DSL service - keep your expectations of speed to a minimum.
This is an adult park - not a 55+ as indicated on the listing. That made for quiet park neighbors.

The premium spots are large and even the non premium spots are spacious.
Picking the right spot in this park is key. Stay too close to the front and you get road noise or on the West side of the map (MV17-MV20) and you'll hear large dogs barking at night. On the east side of this park (DV1-DV9) you'll neighbor other RVers from the park next door.
Don't stay in spots GV5 or GV6 as they are very close to a septic/sewer system and there are times where the breeze calms down and you get a good whiff.
If you don't mind paying cash or check, this is a pretty great spot to stay. Rates are reasonable and despite that feeling that we weren't confident that we had a reservation - the wife of the operation takes good care of you.

We stayed at this family owned park in Dec 2017. Here are some of our experiences:

Pros: This park is out in a remote area of Tucson. Great access to hiking and biking in the national park adjacent to park. Sites are clean and no frills (they do offer upgraded sites but we chose not to spend the money), facilities are clean (nice laundry room and ok rec center), owners are friendly, and the sky is beautiful.

Cons: They do not have a community restroom or shower facility, Dog park is small (like an afterthought), they have other recreation areas (bocce, lawn bowling) but it is not used very often (by the looks of it), the desert cactus are abundant in the park (care must be taken if you walk your pet), and there are a few barking dogs at night (easily heard if your site is at the front of the park).

Cell signal: Good ATT coverage, WIFI was "open" and not password protected (even though they gave you a password to use).

Had a hard time finding a park in Tucson since my husband and I arn’t 55+. We found this park on the Passport America app, although the discount was only for the first 2 nights. But we got a decent pull through, there are some really nice back-in spots here with a lot of vegetation, but if your’e only here for a few nights they will put you up front in the big pull-through sites. This park is close to the west saguaro national park. Although the park is nice, it would have been much better with a pool and maybe a nicer clubhouse. Didn’t seem like they had bathrooms or showers? Anyways, it fit our needs for the few nights we were there.

For a private RV park this was pretty spacious and there was nice vegetation around the park. It’d probably get five stars if I could’ve used a credit card. The rate was reasonable for a weekly stay and it was a good home base to explore Tucson (30 minuets to Downtown) and Saguaro NP (15-20 minuets). There were great hiking trails that led to Tucson Mountain Park connected to the RV park too. Laundry was sufficient, but nothing to write home about. No bathrooms or showers so if that’s something you’d need this isn’t the spot for you.

Best part- fast Verizon around 20mbps download, 12mbps upload. ATT worked great too, but I don’t remember the speeds. We also have a cell booster, but even before we set it up we didn’t have trouble.

Also, we saw that others reviewed this as a 55+ park, but we’re in our 30s and stayed with no questions asked. There was also a family with three kids a few sites down from us for a couple days. Most campers were 55+, but it didn’t seem like a strict rule.

This is kind of an odd park. It had a nice feel, but some areas seemed they'd be a little tough to navigate. We just stayed one night in one of the spartan pull-thrus up front. Had to make a LONG run of sewer hose and the drain is well above ground which made dumping difficult. I wouldn't have wanted to mess with that very often. Management keeps random office hours (we got there as she was closing up in the late afternoon) and the place is cash-only. It's 55+ but we are in our mid 40's and weren't given any hassle. We used the laundry facilities and they were fine. There was a decent amount of road noise up front.

Super friendly people run the place, WIFI was good. Level gravel packed site, interior roads paved. Not much for amenities if you need that sort of thing - no picnic tables or fire rings, no public restroom, pool, etc. They do have a laundry room. Good value and experience for the money. Nice being able to walk right out the back of the park to Tucson Mountain Park, trails were a big plus. We were in a pull through spot towards the front and heard road noise during the day, quieted down at night. Bonus was we got to see some beautiful sunsets out our front window! Friendly neighbors, lots of transient travel in the section we were in. Most of the spaces are pretty close together. Verizon cell and mifi worked great, 2 bars unboosted, 5 boosted. We liked the remote location, that's not for everyone. Nearest Walmart/Walgreens/grocery is 15-20 minutes away, but we saw people riding horseback several times right in front of our site, which we enjoyed very much.

Note - this is NOT a 55+ park.

Get out and enjoy Saguaro National Park east and west!
