“Built in 1911 as the county poor farm”
Historic Edgefield, built in 1911 as the county poor farm, is a destination resort in the Pacific Northwest that blends Oregon's natural beauty with McMenamins' signature whimsy: original buildings carefully restored with cozy interiors, gardens grown using organic methods, great food and drink, live entertainment and more. Encompassing a 74-acre parcel of farmland at the mouth of the spectacular Columbia River Gorge Scenic Area, Edgefield is a 20-minute drive to or from the center of downtown Portland and about 15 minutes from Portland International Airport. This place was once an asylum for the old, disabled, and mentally challenged and people believe that many of its former residents still haunt the extensive grounds and buildings. There are a variety of sightings and spectral happenings and ghosts from human to canine. People claim to hear children crying in a wing that was once an infirmary, there have been sightings of a woman in several of the rooms and some claim a ghost dog wakes them up in the middle of the night by shoving a cold snout in their faces.
Reviews
Edgefield is an incredible place. So much to do between the winery, distillery, brewery, cigar lounge, golf, pool hall, and Ruby's spa. I'd highly recommend staying or even just visiting briefly.
I loved staying here. I was drawn by the description claiming that the place was haunted but I can't say that I experienced anything paranormal. There is a log in the hotel lobby that describes various encounters. There are plenty of little places scattered throughout that are fun to explore. It's just a cool place overall.
Built in 1911 as the county poor farm, today Edgefield is a destination resort and national historic landmark in the Columbia River Gorge scenic area. Blending history with entertainment, Edgefield’s 74 acres offer relaxation and tranquility, just twenty minutes east of Portland. Stay the night to enjoy a comfortable guestroom, fine-dining restaurant, pub, small bars, Ruby’s Spa, soaking pool, winery, brewery, distillery, par-3 golf, movie theater, artwork and more, all paired with our handcrafted ales, wines and spirits.
A wonderful place for events or just to drop in for the second run theater and a great burger! Exploring the grounds is a must. I have been there multiple times and still find areas I've never seen. Luxurious place to stay that is full of history and culture.
I live minutes from here. It's a fantastic however service is always slow and summer brings tourist expect a 20 minute wait and another 30 minutes after you order for your food to arrive
My favorite place to go wine tasting and eat lunch outside in the garden. There is golf and brewpubs through out property.
Great place to stay for any reason love this place catch a movie soak in the salt hot tub have a cold drink great time great people the history is great.
