“The least tolerant church in america”
Established in 1955 by Pastor Fred Phelps, the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) of Topeka, Kansas still exists today as an Old School (or, Primitive) Baptist Church. We adhere to the teachings of the Bible, preach against all form of sin (e.g., fornication, adultery [including divorce and remarriage], sodomy), and insist that the sovereignty of God and the doctrines of grace be taught and expounded publicly to all men. These doctrines of grace were well summed up by John Calvin in his 5 points of Calvinism: Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistible Grace, and Perseverance of the Saints. Although these doctrines are almost universally hated today, they were once loved and believed, as you can see in many confessions of faith.. Even though the Arminian lies that "God loves everyone" and "Jesus died for everyone" are being taught from nearly every pulpit in this generation, this hasn't always been the case. If you are in a church that supposedly believes the Bible, and you are hearing these lies, then your church doesn't teach what the Bible teaches. If you care about your never-dying soul, you will carefully read every word of this web site, along with the entire Bible.
Best part about this attraction was standing on the rainbow house's lawn and giving them the finger.
Even the devil used the Bible as an instrument of his work.
Not worth anyone's time!! They are horrible people!!
It's here and it is a tiny church in the middle of a residential neighborhood. It has some pretty intense signage and messaging posted but otherwise is just nestled into the neighborhood. Across the street is actually a house painted in the colors of the rainbow so that was cool to see as well.
"Burn in Hell, Dr. Marvin!"
They are a little bit homophobic sometimes :P
Useless possibly worst place in america
I would not recommend visiting here. Not much to see but hate and conflict. It's in a residential neighborhood. It's a small church in a somewhat gated structure. There are warning signs posted and notification of cameras on the premises. There are signs everywhere announcing their hatred of gays. The way they go about doing things (protesting at deceased soldiers funerals, name calling, being combative, etc.) are not the way to create positive change. John 13:35 "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." The Bible also says pray for your enemies. Matthew 5:44-45 But I (Jesus) say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven.
We were on a cross country trip this week, so did a little sideline to see this church. I was shocked to see the vulgar signs they had posted all over in the pretty little neighborhood. Across the street was a beautiful little rainbow house with a donation box that we dropped a few bucks into. Their neighbors next-door have also painted their house now and they have a community garden in the front yard inviting you to help yourself to the vegetables they are growing there.
Worth driving by just to see how innocuous it is in that quiet neighbourhood. Saw a couple of basketball nets set-up in their parking lot which reminded me it's just a church of people. Yes, people whom I completely disagree with, but not nefarious super villains. Nice rainbow painted protest house directly across the street, too.
