“Get Lost In The "Land Before Time"”
So Real... You'll Feel It In Your Bones! The Wyoming Dinosuar Center complex includes a world-class museum, dinosaur dig sites, a preparation laboratory and an incredible gift shop. The Walk Through Time allows visitors to follow the evolution of ancient life, from the most primitive forms to the rist of dinosaurs. In the Hall of Dinosaurs lies "The Thermopolis Specimen" the only Archaeopteryx in North America, "Jimbo" a Supersaurus, one of the largest dinosaurs ever mounted, "Stan" a 35-foot T-Rex and a Triceratops, the Wyoming state dinosaur. Also noteworthy in the over 30 mounted skeletons are Allosaurus, fossil fish from Scotland, flying reptiles from Brazil, dinosaurs from China and marine reptiles from several continents. The Wyoming Dinosaur Center was chosen as one of Life Book "Dream Destinations - 100 of the World's Best Vacations."
WOW! If you like dinosaurs, this is the place to go. Our road trip included Dinosaur National Monument, but this museum totally blew that away! Get there early in the day and take the tour bus to the dig site where you can get a personal (group) talk with a paleontologist. Yes, they have an actual active dig site. We missed the last bus, but would totally have gone if we had the opportunity. They have one of the best displays of partial and whole dinosaur fossil skeletons. Some are replicas, but many say that they are real. Jimbo the Supersaurus is amazing. They also had a full triceratops skeleton and numerous full size replicas of sea and flying reptiles that we had never seen before.
The only negative is that the gift shop is really lacking. There were very few items with the museum logo, no patches for the kids, and all of the items were really expensive.
Such a fun experience!! We just toured the museum...it was over 90* the day we visited and knew our little couldn't handle the dig trip in the heat. There are lots of different types of dig-site opportunities (all described on their website) if you're interested in seeing that. They've done a really great job at packing so much information into what seems like a small building (although according to a local, they are currently building a new, larger site for the museum!). We will absolutely be back!
Very cool stop! Great story of the Earths history leading to the dinosaurs. Don’t be deterred from the warehouse look on the outside, go in you won’t regret it.
This was pretty overpriced for such a small museum. I come from a big city, so I was expecting something much bigger.
$10 per person entry, $12.50 to tour the dig site. It was okay, but overpriced for what it is.
The museum and shop were nice but don't go on the dig tour with kids or if you are not very very patient and want a complete lecture on dinosaur history that seemed to drone on forever! Mostly lecture and hardly anything to see. Wish I had skipped the dig tour. Soooooo boring!
