“with 2 lakes, 4 ponds, & over 4 miles of trails”

Fowler Park & Fowler Park Wilderness Area consists of 462.82 acres with total water area of 55.9 acres.  The park is located 7.2 miles south of I-70 on U.S. 41 and .8 mile east on Oregon Church Road.  Fowler Park, founded in June of 1967, was the first park acquired by Vigo County Parks and Recreation Board.  The park, obtained from the Peabody Coal Company, received its namesake in memory of Captain Eugene Fowler, the first man from Vigo County to lose his life in the Vietnam War. Inside Fowler Park there is a 25.9 acre lake (recently named W. Keith Ruble Lake in honor of retired Superintendent, Keith Ruble), a campground, a beach, picnic shelters, playgrounds, trails, restrooms, a boat launch, and a pioneer village.  The Pioneer Village is an 1840's era village setting that is located on the northeast side of Fowler Park.  The Pioneer Village consists of 18 buildings plus a log barn and a working gristmill.  The Pioneer Village is open the third Saturday of the month from May-September and is also open during Pioneer Days, the Pancake Breakfast, and Christmas Walk. Fowler Park Wilderness Area, covering 300 acres, has two lakes, four ponds, and over four miles of trails.  The wilderness area accommodates fishing, boating, camping, hiking, and picnicking.

Hidden gem. $12 for primitive $20 for electric with water spigot close. 1 sight has both. Clean Restrooms with showers, that are fairly new. Gravel pads. Has RV dump ,3 small loops with restroom and showers on each loop. Spots on the small lake, beach, playground and old historical site. Bike park 1/4 mile away. Close to town. Not to far off I 70

We arrived at the entrance were told there was one pull-thru available, which we wanted since we were only staying one night, and did not want to unhook our 16' cargo trailer. We were not provided with a map. Driving through the campground, we were unable to locate any available pull thru sites, and the regular back-in sites would have still been too short for our 32' rig. Even after calling the gate-keeper, and locating the REALLY short pull-thru, we discovered it would not be possible to actually pull through it.

I would not recommend this park unless you have a smaller travel trailer or are looking for a tent site ---- the walk in sites were all right on the waterfront, and they were beautiful.
