Do yourself a favor and give your kids a memory of the great salt lake. We only stopped as we didn’t think our campsite on the mainland would have a walk to water (and good thing-it wasn’t even within view). Entrance fee to enter island but then you can park and go to the water. WEAR SWIM SHOES or the long walk to the water will burn your feet from hot sand. ALSO if you’re unfamiliar with the lake there are zillions of bugs at water edge. They aren’t horrible before water or in water but they are visible in huge clouds at water. So hold your breath and run into and out of water-or wear mosquito hat. They are annoying but don’t bite. Once in the water deep enough the salt allows you to freely float. Fun experience. Bath house and outside rinse showers or else PAY showers.
It was an interesting place for sure. We went in July and it was hot and the knats were awful. We had to hold our breath when we got out of the car so we wouldn't inhale them. The views were unique though and the wildlife was interesting. We got to see buffalo and antelope. We also ate at the Buffalo grill which was really good.
Breathtaking views and spotting of Bison! Costs $15 per carload and the million dollar views of the lake and mountains is worth it!! There are places to pull over to take some photos or admire and also a few spots for picnics! There’s also a public beach
