Meramec Caverns

I'm sad to say I had a terrible experience, which sucks, cause the caverns themselves are lovely. When I visited in August of 2014 with my 9-month-old son I was in a group that also included a woman in a wheelchair. Our tour guide was just incredibly insensitive.

We were the last tour of the day, and he acted like he'd rather be doing anything other than walking us around telling us about the history and geology of the caverns. He kept getting upset with me and the lady in the wheelchair because we couldn't walk as fast as the rest of the group. I had my kid in a bjorn.

I couldn't complete the tour, and feel like I wasted the cost of admission. Again, the caverns are beautiful, well-maintained and pretty rad. I just had a bad experience with the tour guide.

Really amazingly beautiful! Worth the $20 per person. Just wish it wasn't such a long tour, I felt like it was super slow! But the sights were surely breathtaking!

Very touristy and way over priced.

The Meramec Caverns were incredible work of Mother Nature at her best. The power had been damaged by a lightening strike so we received a discount. Lucky they managed to restore during our tour so we had the beautiful lights reflecting on these magnificent formations. There are significant penalties ie prison time and large fines for touching or breaking any. The only bad part was a very young boy who was extremely disruptive and noisy making it difficult to hear the tour guide. This tour is for adults and probably children ages 10 and up. Please don’t let your children spoil this activity by misbehavior.

There's a lot of fun to be had here... For a price. The food is expensive and not very good, but the cave itself is a wonderful experience full of history and interesting facts.

Awesome! Well worth the stop!

We had the last tour of the day and I was worried that the tour guide would be burnt out, but he was awesome. Really beautiful. Definitely worth the price. Even my grumpy teenagers enjoyed this beauty and the stories that went along with the tour.

We took our 3 and 4 year old and they enjoyed it. They did get a bit tired from the walking. But still had fun. It's a bit dated but I like to think that's part of the charm. And the bathrooms were clean. (High on the importance scale for us). The tour guide we had was nice and had lots of fun information about the cave.

Beautiful caverns! The place is really commercialized but worth the stop.
