“An 1830s New England Living History Museum”

Old Sturbridge Village, the largest outdoor history museum in the Northeast, depicts a rural New England town of the 1830s. You are invited into more than 40 original buildings, including homes, meetinghouses, a district school, country store, bank, working farm, three water-powered mills, and trade shops - all situated on more than 200 scenic acres. Visitors can meet heritage breed farm animals and interact with authentically costumed staff. Old Sturbridge Village's purpose is to provide modern Americans with a deepened understanding of their own times through a personal encounter with New England's past. The museum is a nonprofit educational institution. Its collections, exhibits, and programs present the story of everyday life in a small New England town during the years 1790 to 1840.

Old Sturbridge Village has to be at the top of your list of things to do in Massachusetts. This living museum and working farm spans over 200 acres, and features more than 30 exhibits! This is the place to be if you want to truly experience what it’s like to lead a life without technology during the 1830s.

Popping in and out of the 40 antique buildings truly is like walking through a movie during this time period. Some of the more fascinating buildings are the Cider Mill, Shoe Shop, and Friends Meetinghouse. It’s also worth paying a visit to their gardens, since farming was in fact a major way of life.

We think a visit here is one of the best things to do in Massachusetts!

This was first class. The facilities are well kept up and the workers are very knowledgeable and professional. There is a LOT to do and see and they have a lot of activities each day.

Took boys 12,13 and 15. It was fun and informational.

There are wagon rides, we saw cows plowing a field, a cow getting milked, blacksmiths working, basket weavers, etc. we got to taste apples that were grown there.

It’s worth the money.
