“RV campsites and motel rooms in Stevenson”
Rolf and Astrid Diek and their two sons came from the Netherlands in 1999 to build their version of the "American Dream". In doing so, the couple constructed the Wind Mountain Resort from the ground up, establishing a great base camp for outdoor enthusiasts in the Columbia River Gorge. The resort has 15 large full hook-up RV-sites, built to accommodate not only RVs but the boats that many bring with them to fish the Columbia River and its tributaries, like Wind River and Drano lake. There are also sites available for tent campers and RV drivers who can get by with hook-ups providing only water and electricity. A lodge has four clean, well-equipped motel rooms. The rooms have private baths, kitchenettes, cable television, air conditioning, and wireless internet. Windows give you filtered views of the Columbia River across the highway. The only complaint about the lodging is the sound of the trains that occasionally pass by on the far side of the road. If the trains bother you, the Dieks have thoughtfully placed earplugs in the rooms to muffle the noise for a good night's sleep. The Dieks also operate the Home Valley Store a quarter mile down the road. The store sells not only groceries, but also a healthy supply of fishing tackle, bait, and ice. Advice on where to go fishing and what to use is free. Anglers discovered the Wind Mountain Resort years ago and make up much of the clientele. They come to fish the mouth of the Wind and White Salmon rivers, nearby Drano Lake, and the Columbia River. Most of the anglers are after salmon and steelhead, fishing for one or the other throughout the year. Sturgeon, shad and smallmouth bass fishing are also options for anglers staying here. Wind Mountain Resort is also an ideal base for other outdoor enthusiasts. There is kayaking and whitewater rafting on the Wind and White Salmon River. Hunters also come in the fall, lured by the prospect of taking a black-tailed deer or an elk in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Windsurfers can launch across the highway at Home Valley Park and hikers can summit adjacent Wind or nearby Dog Mountain for great views of the Columbia River Gorge. Wind Mountain Resort is open throughout the year.

Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on June 05, 2023Sites are spread apart and have fire ring & picnic table. Across the street from the Columbia River, easy walk to river access. Clean bathrooms & laundry. Friendly staff & host. It is a nice place to sit back & relax...until the train goes by. Our site was on a hill, with a great view of the Oregon side of the river. If we looked down we saw the owners garage with all the vehicles parked. So we didn't look down, just up at the trees & the mountains. Town is very close with grocery store and several tap rooms. Lots of shops and beautiful waterfront to watch wind surfers.

Let's start with the host is very nice! The campground was now what I hoped for. We had a pull through spot near the front of the park with a patch of grass. The neighbors junk was an eyesore so we kept our back window blinds closed. The highway and train tracks were both very close and very active, so noise was a factor.
We used it as an overnight stop, but wouldn't stay again. If you do choose to go, approach it from the western direction. The highway to the east of this place has low clearance tunnels and the bridge over the Columbia in that direction is horribly narrow.

This is for dog mountain rv resort and not wind mountain, same family and right next door to each other.
Pros: good value. They do monthly and it was $700 for a month for my 23ft trailer (longer is more). Full hookups. They had a site for me with short (1 week) notice. Location fantastic for hood river (get a toll transponder to make bridge crossings cheaper).
Meh: a lot of trees with sticky sap. Expect to need to do a good washing after your stay. My spot was small and along one of the “roads” of the park. There isn’t a lot of traffic from customers but there is a lot of traffic from the owners while doing maintenance and yard work, etc.
With a booster I got 2 bars LTE on ATT, 4 bars 5g T-Mobile, and 2 bars LTE Verizon.
I would easily stay here again.
