“year round adventure!”
Wells State Park is located on Green Bay about 30 miles south of Escanaba. Its 678 acres include a three-mile shoreline with beautiful sandy beach for swimming, a large picnic area, a modern campground and rustic cabins that are available to rent year round. The park, established in 1925, was donated to the State of Michigan by the children of John Walter Wells, a pioneer lumberman in the area. In addition to owning several lumber companies and sawmills, he served a mayor of Menominee for three terms beginning in 1893. Many of the park's buildings, landscaping and water and sewage systems were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and 1940s. The park is open year round, even when the campground is closed, providing opportunities for winter recreation such as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and ice fishing.
Great campsite! We stayed at one of the rustic campsites which were fantastic! The area we had was secluded with only one other campsite nearby; we also had individual access to Lake Michigan right behind our campsite. It was beautiful. The bathrooms we used were outhouses but were well maintained and didn't put out too much of a smell. The shower houses were also great with individual shower rooms with a lock on the door. Overall I think this campground was great and I would consider coming again.
We went in late November. While the main RV site was closed, we were able to park at a rustic site for a few hours to sleep. We were self contained, but did check the bathroom doors which were locked.
We would have paid but there were no envelopes to put money. I didn’t sleep well thinking we were going to get kicked out, but regardless, it was a beautiful spot.
Quiet. Everything you need. Awesome!
Love it!! Clean facilities. Great paved spots. Trees, water, amenities. Its what a camp site should be.
