“one of the few remaining undammed rivers”
Established in 1972, Buffalo National River flows freely for 135 miles and is one of the few remaining undammed rivers in the lower 48 states. Once you arrive, prepare to journey from running rapids to quiet pools while surrounded by massive bluffs as you cruise through the Ozark Mountains down to the White River. The Buffalo provides many on and off river activies, and there is something to satisfy the interest of everyone. Prepare to experience pre-history and history as you visit areas of cave people, Native Americans, and 19th cenutry pioneers. Did you know that the water in the Buffalo National River makes vactioneers happy along the Gulf Coast? Its true. The Buffalo River is connected to the White River, which is connected to the Mississippi, and laps up on the beach goers of the Gulf states.
This area is gorgeous. Great rocky beach and an amazing bluff opposite the beach area.
One of the most beautiful places on earth! Breath-taking waterfalls, caves to explore, and billy goat trails wind through craggy rock formations in a maze of awe-inspiring beauty. Best to do with older kids that can handle steep inclines. Visited in April when the wildflowers were in bloom and the waterfalls were roaring with the spring melt, adding to the dramatic landscape. We'll definitely be back!
We love this area! Camping is first come first serve so get there early if its a busy weakend holiday. Make enough time to float the river and check that your going at the right time of year, sometimes it can get pretty low and you may have to drag a little. There is just SO much to do in this area like seeing elk, hiking, caving, rock climbing. Our favorite time to go is early in spring after big rains because there are so many waterfalls everywhere going into the river
This is nature's beauty at its finest! Went hiking here with my friends and we definitely had a fun time. After the hike, we tried boating on the river. The flow was gentle and very relaxing. It was a scenic trip the whole way. We even saw some groups which are fishing. The wildlife is abundant. Elks can be seen here, too. The whole place is just breathtaking.
