“All your relaxation and vacation needs”
While in its early years Buchanan Resort resembled little of what it was to become, its reputation for easy-going hospitality was established immediately. The first “resort” visitors were neighborhood fishermen who would rent skiffs John Buchanan left under the 100-year-old oak tree on shore, each sportsman leaving whatever coins he felt was fair in a nearby cigar box. Eventually, John and his family began welcoming visitors into their home from as far away as St. Louis and Chicago for a few days of magnificent fishing. With a 350 boat marina, a restaurant, cottage and motel accommodations for more than 200, three campgrounds, a full-service marine store, and the area’s premier corporate conference center accommodating up to 120 guests with generously appointed waterfront cottages nearby, Buchanan Resort is the most complete vacation and recreational destination on Kentucky Lake. Located an easy two-hour drive from Nashville and a three-hour drive from Memphis, Buchanan Resort still attracts fishermen who were its first visitors.
We stayed from Wednesday May 24 until Monday May 29. We were in a self contained class A motorhome with a towed behind Jeep. We traveled wth our two dogs. I cannot say anything negative about any of the staff or about the cleanliness of the facilities. The rv area is all gravel. There is no grassy areas around the rv sites at all. The sites are very close together, so close together that sitting out in your own campsite feels like you are sitting in your neighbor's campsite. There are no fire rings. If you like a little space, a little natural beauty, and the option of a campfire, this is probably not going to be your kind of place. The wifi was fantastic until the camp filled up, then it was nearly non-existent. That is to be expected of course. We were there on a holiday weekend so it makes sense that the wifi would be sporadic. From what we saw before the big crowds arrived, they seem to have a pretty good wifi signal. We had some problems with the cable hookup and the staff worked diligently to solve the problems. We could not have been happier with how hard the staff worked to take care of the needs (and wants) of their guests. The facilities are clean and well maintained. There is a restaurant, a store carrying gear for boaters and watersports, a small hotel, cabins, a playground, a large picnic pavillion, and a beautiful saltwater swimming pool. The campground is connected to a well maintained marina with boats for rent and facilities for privately owned boats as well. They also rent out kayaks.
Any site for short term stay has no shade, just gravel and sun. And no cell service.
