“An American castle”
Built by the Knights of Pythias as an orphanage in 1913, the structure was later owned by the U.S. Military for more than 50 years. The nearly 40,000 square feet contain more than 50 rooms, including dungeons and a ballroom. The Paranormal Task Force and the Ozark Paranormal Society have certified Pythian Castle as a haunted site. One-hour tours are offered daily. Murder mystery dinners, comedy nights, ghost tours, and other special events occur regularly. The website includes a complete history; specific tour times; ticket prices for various tours; and an event schedule. Private event space available.
I wouldn't recommend coming here. My husband and I were a few minutes late, but dispute being the only business they had for the last tour the staff was unwilling to show us around or help. My husband and I went to the restroom, by the time we came out, no one was to be found so, we took the hint and left. Not great for business.
Meh, not really much. It's an okay castle. Ha Ha Tonka State Park is better, even though it's in ruins. Just drove by for a photo op. It's in a really weird, light industrial area too, so that kinda detracts from its potential tourist draw, in my opinion. I just didn't feel compelled to go in for a tour.
Very aggressive staff, we come when business was close. Just take one picture and owner ask payment for pictures and get out from this place
The website and description here are misleading that the building is open during block times. It’s only by appointment. I accidentally got into the driveway when a truck was leaving and was locked in but able to let the chain down myself to leave.
Closed in the middle of the day on a Friday. This was a place I was really excited to see as we came through Springfield. My advice is to call ahead before you bother leaving the highway.
The castle is not worth the stop. If you're interested in seeing inside of this castle call ahead and make a reservation, because they will not even let you up the driveway without tickets to get in. They have no interest in sharing their history with the public in anyway, they just want your money. The troll at the front gate is incredibly unfriendly. Typically places like this will let you come to the front desk to schedule a tour and at least view the grounds and tell you a little bit about the place with some enthusiasm, but they are stopping you at the end of the driveway and turning away anyone who doesn't want to spend the day there. It's surrounded by a chain link fence and a military base.
I have visited the Castle several time over the last 2-3 years. I started with a ghost tour then a dinner show and most recently I was back for the history tour. It's a neat place with lots of interesting history. It's been nice seeing the Castle brought back to life.
We took our Girl Scouts on a tour of the castle. The girls enjoyed it and the moms felt it had potential. It's family owned and operated.
