“world's largest military small arms collection”
For nearly two centuries, the US Armed Forces and American industry looked to Springfield Armory for innovative engineering and superior firearms. Springfield Armory National Historic Site commemorates the critical role of the nation’s first armory by preserving and interpreting the world's largest historic US military small arms collection, along with historic archives, buildings, and landscapes.
Awesome history here. Great rangers to explain.
Have to admit that we didn’t get to tour the facility because of a gas leak today.
We got to drive around but not go in.
It’s only one floor for the museum and there’s not much to see outside.
This place is pretty interesting, lots to see and read about. Plenty of guns everywhere. It was kind of a random stop, in fact my fellow roadtripper didn't really even want to stop, but I think it was worth getting out of the car for! The building shares a campus with a community college or technical school (I don't remember which) and you have to drive all around this sort of creepy set of old buildings, "murder-y" was a catchphrase on our trip and this place fit in. It's not a dangerous area, I don't think, it would just make a great filming location for a slasher movie.
It is run by the National Park Service, so you can stamp your "passport" here. And they have free bumper stickers for veterans of American wars!
