I don’t dis a place lightly, but this “attraction” is neither presidential in nature or nor is it a library, at least not in the sense of other Presidential Libraries that I’ve visited. What it is, is an overpriced, class “A”, all-American, tourist trap that is a combination of a wax museum and a mega-sized gift shop. The foundation that runs the museum seems more concerned about separating you from the Lincoln’s in your wallet than teaching history. The Lincoln funeral room, complete with a coffin and hobby-lobby, plastic floral arrangements was exceptionally cheesy; though I did enjoy the Civil War in 14 minutes electronic exhibit. If you want the real the Lincoln story, save your money and travel a few blocks away to the National Park Service administered Lincoln Home National Historic Site.
This is a must see!
We wanted to love our visit to President Lincoln's Museum and Library. First - "some" of the exhibits are informative and original - then others make you feel like you're in a bad wax museum or carnival show. What information you can glean from the actual historical information is good and it is a worth while stop if you are in Springfield. The volunteers are very pushy and some you have to outright keep walking from - this library and museum differ from others in the sense that it is a for profit company so from the front door it seems someone is trying to hock something on you or sign you up for something. There is a per hr. charge for parking also.
Made me appreciate what Lincoln did even more. Visited the house and neighborhood he lived in and the museum. Didn't make it to the library because we spent so much time at the other places. The museum made me realize what he was up against and how hard it had to be for him to take his stand and endure the Civil War. For history buffs I think this is a must see.
We enjoyed this attraction. Some of the artifacts were amazing to see. We didn't make it to the library, just the museum. We also went to the Lincoln family tomb.
Well thought out explanation of Lincoln's Presidency and worth your time!
