“the largest waterfall in Indiana”
Cataract Falls is a waterfall located in northern Owen County in the west central part of the U.S. state of Indiana. The largest waterfall by volume and by height, (combined height of both upper and lower falls), in the state, it is part of the Lieber State Recreation Area. Cataract Falls consists of two sets of waterfalls on Mill Creek separated by about 1 mile (1.6 km). Both falls consist of a series of drops. The total height of the Upper Falls is approximately 45 feet (14 m), while that of the Lower Falls is about 30 feet (9.1 m). Immediately downstream of the Lower Falls, Mill Creek enters the southern end of Cagles Mill Lake, near the towns of Cunot and Cataract. The falls are just offState Road 42 and close to State Road 243.
Great stop to get out and stretch. 2 spots to see the falls, ands it's free. We enjoyed walking around a bit but, not much walking required.
The pics don't really do it justice. This is a neat find in Indiana, and worth a stop. Exit 41 is the best way to get there through Cloverdale, and follow the signs. Our GPS took us on a wrong route, but was pretty driving through the country side. We liked the Upper Falls better than the Lower Falls, and the red covered bridge is to the right of them. There were picnic tables inside the bridge. There were 2 overlook spots at the Upper Falls for viewing the waterfalls. There is handicap parking for the disabled. The Lower Falls is a short drive from the Upper Falls. Normally, it says there's a $7 fee, but We went late May (before Memorial Day,) on a weekend, and it was free.
The falls are a pretty long drive from the highway and it costs $7 to get in. The water was beautiful and I stood outside listening to the sound for quite a while, but I am not sure if it was worth the time and money to get there.
Super awesome waterfalls, not just for Indiana! Theres a cool covered bridge too. Definitely worth the detour.
Worth the stop! Beautiful place.
The sign says $7.00/car; it was free when I visited. It's a good enough spot to take a break and stretch.
15 minutes from the highway and great spot to stretch your legs. It is $7 to get in but because of COVID19 we got a freebie. Nice walk down to the lower falls and pretty covered bridge. Dog friendly, she even got a little swim in And there are picnic tables if you want to have a snack break
Was very excited to see the falls but were unable to find them. No obvious signs or entrance
