The overall experience here was quite good. We were here in the winter, so we didn't have issues with ants that many of the reviewers talked about on other sites. Our site backed up right against the water on Mobile Bay. We had full hookups, and no problems there. The park is relatively quiet for having highways pretty close. Also, not a lot of stuff for kids to do, which wasn't an issue for us.

The park offers WiFi, which must be a recent addition, as none of the other review sites indicated it as an option. Having said that, the WiFi was not very good and kept kicking us off. We've got the WiFi ranger Elite pack, so signal strength wasn't an issue. It just kept kicking us off. Also, even when we were connected, it was not fast. But, like I said, we weren't expecting to have it at all, so maybe they'll up the service quality as time goes on.

The location is really convenient to get to anything in Mobile or across the bay in Spanish Fort or Daphne.

We lived in Mobile and stayed here while we were waiting for the sale on our house to close. This was also the first place we stayed after buying our new Airstream in 2014. First the good. Wide spaces with lots of room between you and your neighbors. Excellent views of Mobile Bay and the wildlife that lives there including several alligators and score of birds and fish. Outstanding sunsets! Walk out onto the fishing dock with your camera for some excellent shots. Now the bad. Despite being relatively new, the bath house showers are the pits. Weak stream of water and having to constantly push the button to keep the water going makes it frustrating. Then, there are the ants. Even though we knew about them and sprayed for them, they still got onto the trail from the water hose. I had to spray ant killer all over the trailer and then wash it down to get rid of the bodies and any killer. We then treated anything running from the ground to the trailer. Fortunately, none were able to get into the trailer.

There are quite a few very good seafood restaurants nearby. Try a new one each night. They are all good. Also, very convenient to Bass Pro and other retailers in the area. There is some road noise from I10 and Hwy 90 but it isn't too bad.

We require water and electricity for our Vanagon and stayed in the tent section. It was pretty far from the bath house (.2 mile one way), but we were surrounded by trees and very close to the water.

The bath house was modern, but had poor lighting. For some reason, the lights were on motion control and you had to wave your hands if you were in the bathroom or taking a shower to keep the lights on. The showers were cool.

The roads and site spaces were nicely paved. There are walking trails and a place where you could see a bunch of rabbits. (Our young neighbors told us about this, but we didn't walk to find out.) There are also a lot of locals who come in for the day and fish. This park is peaceful and has a beautiful setting.

There are two laundry rooms located in the bath house.

We paid a different price each night: $26.50; $23.32; and $20.02.

This is a beautiful state park conveniently located right off of I-10, but the road noise from I-10 is not at all bothersome. The water front sites have beautiful sunset views! The sites are well spaced so you don't feel crowded by a neighbor. Having sewer hookups was a plus! We read reviews earlier about ants so we sprayed ant killer when we arrived and did not have any problems with ants. The staff is friendly and check-in was quick and easy. The USS Alabama battleship is only about 5 minutes away and so is Bass Pro Shop. Verizon worked well there. We would stay here again if we are ever in the Mobile area again.

We stayed here for a week. There are a verity of sites, some more shaded than others. Ours had very little shade, but was right next to the water.

It's a short distance to the visitors center in Mobile, which then gives you access to many sights in the city. Perhaps the best feature was access to the Five Rivers Delta Resource Center. This facility is great wildlife tours, both on a pontoon boat and guided kayak tours. We took both of them.

There are great seafood restaurants just down the road. We would recommend Ed's Seafood Shed.

Gulf Shores, and it's beaches are also just about an hour away. Drive Scenic Highway 98 which goes through small historic towns like Fairhope.

Popped in for a night passing through. The sites are super tidy with plentiful trees and lots of elbow room. The sites flanking the water have a lovely view of the bay. Didn’t see a bad spot in the park. Since we’re winterized, appreciate the cleanliness of the showers and restrooms. Unique location and a great treat; even if only for a night. Would absolutely stay here again.

Positive experience.Safe gated park with full hook ups average amount of space per site, small laundromat. Boat ramp. Beautiful place to watch the sunset and take walks. Highway 10 is a few miles away but very noisy across the bay.

We stayed here on the recommendations of locals we met at our previous stay. Nice park close to downtown Mobile and the Mobile Battleship Park. We were given site #18. The sites towards the front of the park are paved sites with very few trees for shade at the site, but more trees may have detracted from the view of the bay. The sites towards the rear are more shaded if that's what's preferred. Sites can get a bit soggy during rainy times. Glorious sunsets on Mobile Bay. Restrooms were clean, there was a small laundry, fishing pier, boat ramp and a few short hiking trails. The staff was very courteous and helpful. Be sure to check out the Battleship Park and the Mardi Gras Museum. We checked out Serda Brewing for local beer, at which they had a food truck serving good Mexican style food, also ate at Wentzel's Oyster House, wasn't our favorite. Daphne was the closest place for groceries and necessities about 10-15 minutes away. All in all a nice place to stay.

Years ago, a young man in absolute love was toting the woman of his adult-long idolization from hither to yonder when when they found solace and refuge from I-10 in this state park. Such was the grandeur of their love that celebrates things like “6 month anniversary of the first time they ate sushi together.” That happened on the dock here.

Seven years later, a few kids, and a different van now, they found themselves here again. This is their experience with the tent area.

Frankly, I’ve never seen a tent spot that was worse than an RV spot. Maybe I don’t get around enough. But P2 was a kitten’s spit away from two of our neighbors, and I found it not-annoying-enough-to-ask-to-move, but still a bit annoying, that we weren’t automatically assigned P1, which would have put us in a much larger spot with no immediate neighbors. The breeze was nice. Folks are living here, as one guy I spoke to put it, “There’s a seven day limit but they don’t enforce it. Except to keep the riffraff out.”

The redeeming qualities were the nice boardwalk over the water, utter lack of biting insects, cleanly bathrooms and our neighbor who was living out of his Volvo. I offered him a beer. He told me stories. He offered me a bike Bell. I told him stories.

By the way I felt in the morning, I can o my assume that other neighbor might consider us part of the riffraff.

The RV spots were rather huge though, so if you’ve got a hankerin’ for hookups, you may have something to write home about.

As a place to stay when visiting the area, this state park worked out very well. Full hookups for $26/night with decent sized, level, paved sites, easy access to I-10, and just a couple miles from lots of stores. As a destination of its own, it was pretty disappointing. The state park is tiny -- it's just the campground and a boat launch. There are no trails or things to do or see. Across from the campground is a row of RVs in storage, and the short road to the maintenance building is lined with old boats and RVs in disrepair. Apart from walking the campground loop, there was no place to walk our dog since the park was so small. We found another local park across the highway which has slightly better walking opportunities, but crossing US-98 on foot turned out to be pretty risky (no traffic light or crossing at the campground entrance), and that park (including trails) closed at 5pm daily. While outside, there was some constant traffic noise from nearby I-10, but it wasn't audible when inside. They did warn us about the ant problem, and we did spot a few inside the motorhome, but our diatomaceous earth did a good job protecting us from them. The campground gate is locked at night, and there's no gate code -- you have to call the camp host to let you in. Verizon worked well, AT&T was slower but still usable. Reservations must be made by phone. Compared to most commercial RV parks, Meaher State Park was cheaper and with larger sites, but compared to the dozens of other state parks we've stayed in across the country, it was lacking. Now that we know what to expect, we'd return for a very short stay either when passing through or visiting Mobile, but we wouldn't plan an extended stay.
