Edgar Evins State Park Campground

The road to the campground is steep downhill with some sharp turns. The well-built wooden decks that reach out over the steep banks of the lake were originally built for tents, but have massive pillars holding them up, so there is no doubt they are sturdy. However, when built, there was no consideration for room for backing in. We have a 20 foot trailer, and it took a lot of maneuvering to back in. But our reward was a beautiful lake view, and because I backed in on a little slant, we could watch the sunrise from our front bedroom looking through the side window, which was a nice surprise. Some of the sites require backing in by turning while going downhill. If you have a longer trailer, preview the spots on google satellite before choosing. You will need to unhitch and park your vehicle to the side. But well worth it. Water and electric. Campground host picked my husband up in the golf cart to take him to get ice since it was a steep uphill hike.

The road to get to the campground from Highway 40 is steep and curvy. Do not attempt if squeamish or your brakes are not in very good condition.

The campground is located on the shores of Center Hill Lake (the lake is huge) in the steep, hilly Eastern Highland Rim off of Highway 40 between Nashville & Knoxville, TN.

All campground sites are built of steel supports with very hearty timbers that support a massive amount of weight. We parked our Airstream and large truck, weighing in at 18,500lbs with no worries (not even a creaking sound). The wooden platform-type sites are equipped with a picnic table, grill and fire ring next to the platform sites. (Think "Your own private boardwalk")

They are designed for trailers or motor homes up to 33 feet in length, with a few select sites up to 40 feet in length. These sites can also accommodate small and large tents. Camper tents requiring tent pegs or stakes are asked to use large nails to secure the tents and to remove the nails when breaking camp. Please note: unless you get one of the few large sites, you will have to unhook your trailer and park your tow vehicle on the side.

There are a few really nice trails for hiking - we walked from our campsite down to the marina. During the summer season, there is a full service marina store and restaurant.

There are three bathhouses with hot showers located throughout the campground, they are very nice. A sewage dump station is centrally located in the campground. Approximately 20 sites and one bathhouse are open year-round. Pets are allowed in the campground, we have 3 dogs.

Totally worth the somewhat scary drive into the campground - a truly unique experience!

All sites will accommodate campers up to 30 feet, a few sites go up to 35, and only 4 are sized for 40 feet. Our travel trailer is 28 feet and we fit comfortably in a 35 foot site. Restrooms are a little older but very clean and well maintained. The sites are platforms - tight for big trailers, but worth the views. Some of the smaller sites only have utilities on the left side, so make sure you have extension cords and long hoses. The staff is very friendly. Fly fishing info and supplies at a store at the park entrance. Ask for "Joel." This is a boater's park. Weekends book up, but rangers said it's quiet and easy during the week. Can be busy and noisy on holiday weekends.

Road from 40 Intestate to the park as indeed curvy but we have not had any issues pulling our 30ft travel trailer. Campsites 1-36 are usually for smaller camper 20-25ft long. Parking along the ridge is limited. The park has campsites that can accommodate longer campers up to 40ft but these are limited. Sites 37-60 are more expensive due to water view. Most can accommodate larger RVs. Be prepared to book ahead on these desirable sites. We usually stay at site 50 or 52. These are longer and wider, easier to maneuver. No pull through sites, only back in. Very clean bathrooms and the staff is super helpful. Power and water hookups, dumping station on site. Beautiful lake nearby for a stunning sunset. Highly recommended. Cellular connection is spotted, campsites up the hill have better coverage. We have Verizon and is a hit and miss. Local campsite internet does no support streaming.

Arrived and found the sites very hard to back into because of the grade to the level spot.

To Make things worse, All electric and water are on the other side and our 25' pull behind RV. All the sites are that way. BEWARE when you book. They have a large supply of new hoses and electric to sell in the camp store as you are STUCK.

They told us when the park opened in 1975, they only planned on drivable RV's and never thought of the pull behind. They never updated the sites. I WON"T BE BACK after driving 100 miles.

sites are concrete and steel platforms with wooden decking, some sites are difficult to back into due to the narrow roads in some areas. We were in site 47 which has very easy back-in access. Some roads are steep, but just take it slow and all is good. The view of the lake is fantastic and hiking and water sport activity is plentiful

Unfortunately it started raining on us about 1 hour into our stay and didn't stop until morning, but that's only unfortunate because we really liked being outside here. Bugs were surprisingly not very present.

We LOVE Edgar Evins. The decks are very spacious, distant from other sites, and nestled in the trees for a nice quiet retreat. Here you are truly in the woods and just walking around the campground is enjoyable. Bathrooms are kept clean and are well ventilated. Staff is friendly and helpful. Trailheads nearby make for easy access to hiking. Would like to try out a site by the water one time.

Campground was clean and quiet. Our site had nice water views and was easy to back into. However, touring the campground, we saw several sites that had odd angles and bad inclines to navigate. I would hate to try to back into some of these sites. Def check photos before reserving. Also, this campground is pretty remote. No grocery stores or other amenities nearby. Be sure to pack food for your stay; otherwise, you’re gonna have quite a commute to the nearest store. Would have given a better review if all sites were easy to get into and of there were more amenities nearby. The platform sites are def unique, though!

Be wary of the speed bumps throughout the campground, they are closely spaced and rather abrupt, take them very slowly. The sites are all elevated platforms due to the steep slope to the lake, which we had not encountered before, but are very widely space. We were in site 50, which had no visibility to DISH west satellites, and we were not able to pick up and OTA TV with our omni antenna. Most of the fire rings are in a narrow strip of gravel along the road, but you can get chairs around most of them. The campground was less than half full during the week. There are several trails in the park, but we were only here two days and only got to hike the one to the marina, which was nice. AT&T had 2 bars and 1 MB/s w/o a booster, 3 bars and 4 MB/s with it. Overall WiFi was problematic. We were able to get connected and got 3 MB/s once, but unable to get a connection with any data rate the rest of our stay and the park was not that busy.
