“Both unique and addictive”
This steakhouse is a real gem. It is acclaimed, by many a patron, as serving the best steaks-EVER. Oh, and two words: beer bread. So, what's the catch? Well, the atmosphere is a bit dated and it is a steakhouse so it'll cost money (obviously), but it is much less expensive than big city steaks. So, if you have a few dollars hidden in the dash while on your cross-country road trip, this the food-place to splurge.
You need to stop off at Shamrock, TX on your Route 66 road trip! The town doesn't have a lot going on, but it's got the iconic Conoco gas station and Big Vern's Steakhouse. I highly recommend pulling in around 5PM getting some late afternoon shots, and then some nighttime shots when it's all lit up. Definitely hit up Big Vern's Steakhouse too, I had one of the best steak dinners of my whole life there. The onion rings are awesome too. Oh yeah, and the beer bread is to die for. I got extras to take back to my hotel that night.
It was great!! From CT and used to a lot of expensive and fancy steakhouses. I got the 10oz strip, it was amazing. Hand cut and aged on the premises. The look and area is a bit "interesting". But as the great Clark Griswold himself said, "I'm going for it, Hunny!" Give it a try if passing by, does not disappoint!
So disappointed. Big Vern died last year and the wife closed up shop. Boo
Ate here tonight and it was great. Friendly staff and good food! Nothing else in town except fast food but a great option.
Steaks were good, my husband says better than the steak he had at another well known steakhouse. Beer bread - something we'd never tried - ate it as our dessert. Yum. Our waitress Sheila was very helpful.
The steak and beer bread were amazing. The waitresses seemed nice, but not too bright? Dated decor and poor food presentation. Definitely on the pricey side, but still a good meal.
