WOW!! You would never guess how great this tour is! It is a MUST DO! The history that oozes out of this place is awesome and the tour makes it much more than just a cool looking building. Also highly suggest the Thurmond ghost town a few miles up the road when in the area.
There is a ton of neat history here. The owners/operators were very knowledgable and very nice people. They are doing a great job at preserving an interesting piece of history.

This place is an incredible diamond in the coal country! So much to see and learn here. Nothing like you would ever imagine. The owners are passionate about preserving this history and doing a world-class job of curating this museum! So much learned, and the acoustics of the building are just one of its many hidden secrets. Just a short detour and so worthwhile. Just realize it's open seasonally. It's totally worth the admission cost and I'm certain that the cost of admission isn't remotely what it costs to maintain the building!
I was beyond impressed with how this building was constructed and why. The history is amazing and Joy was an awesome guide. It's very interactive as well, not just a cookie cutter speech regurgitated from some kid. These people are all volunteers and there for the love of local history.
This tour was much more than expected. Most of us have heard of the "company store" and what it meant to coal mining families of the time. But the careful design of this building to control all aspects of the business and the lives of the miners and their families was fascinating. Wish I could've spared more time for a longer tour.
It's not a quick stop, nor a very cheap one. The adult tour is $10 each, but lasts 30 minutes. We were hoping for a quick stop on our ride home, and couldn't commit this much time. The good news is: it's not far off 19, and easy to get to.
