“An ancient archaeology site with a reputation for horned giants..”
This place is on private property. Listing for informational purposes only. Please do not visit without express permission from the land owner. Spanish Hill is the site of an infamous archaeological excavation in the early 1900s, a dig that unearthed giant skeletons with horns. The horned giants of Sayre, Pennsylvania is a legend concerning a series of giant skeletons with horned skulls discovered during the 1880s by state historian, Dr. G.P. Donehoo, and two visiting professors, A.B. Skinner and W.K. Moorehead while excavating a burial mound. The skeletons were reported to be at or above seven feet in height, possessing skulls that had horn-like protuberances just above the eyebrows, but were claimed to have been lost, misplaced, or stolen while in route to the American Investigation Museum. Locals have long reported tales of curses since the excavation, specifically regarding homes built on or around Spanish Hill, many of which seem to wind up haunted. HISTORY OF SAYRE: In May 1870, a Waverly banker named Howard Elmer, along with Charles Anthony and James Fritcher, bought the Pine Plains area between Waverly and Athens. Elmer convinced Asa Packer to locate a new railroad repair facility on the Pine Plains for the expanding Lehigh Valley Railroad, which was making a push north to connect to the Erie railroad at Waverly, NY. Robert Heysham Sayre, President of the Pennsylvania and New York Railroad, helped cement the deal. The town was named in his honor. Sayre was incorporated on January 27, 1891. In 1904 when the locomotive shops were built at Sayre, the main shop building was believed to be the largest structure in the world under one roof, it held that title for only a brief time however. The railroad operated from 1870 until 1976, but maintenance facilities were shifted away before that. With the decline of industry, population has declined since 1940.
As a bit of personal insight in Spanish Hill, it's worth noting that there's not an official way to visit. You can speak to the land owners about getting a tour, but they're notoriously antisocial, something that has led to even more rumors that these people have actually discovered the Spanish gold said to be hidden on the hill. It doesn't help that they won't let any archaeologists come to Spanish Hill to conduct any kind of historical digs. If you can manage to visit, you're either REALLY lucky, or you're sneaking in.
It's a huge pain in the butt hike up the side of a hill through really thick, overgrown weeds. Not to mention it's literally on the side of the highway and you'll have to park half a mile away. It's also on private property so you'll have that to worry about too. This place is cool, and the history surrounding it is legitimately weird, but there's a good chance if you try to sneak in you'll get busted. There's a huge parking lot across the highway where you can take pictures of the hill and can actually get a really good view. Personally I'd go there instead.
tracy.lynn.142035 By that logic, nothing would exist on the planet but humans, since all life has evolved from the same single celled organism. Life on the planet earth is a showcase of the many stages of evolution that have occurred over the last 4.6 billion years. It's a beautiful process and not something that should be feared for lack of understanding. In the age of the internet, there is no good reason to be uninformed and I encourage you to utilize your technology to it's best advantage. Remember, people thought the earth was flat until we realized and proved that it wasn't; just imagine what we'll know tomorrow.
Government snatched that up real quick didn't they.. It'd have been nice to see some research put into finding more in the area. Perhaps Modern Dna scans can shed more light into the composition of this humanoid claim. Our world is very ancient. Many amazing unknown things are being found everyday. This would be great to see more curiosity on it and more people pushing to find more skulls.
lol
I would enjoy these 'facts' more if they weren't copied DIRECTLY from Wikipedia
