“Walk-in wine tasting groups of eight or less are welcomed!”
At Sunstone Vineyards and Winery, located just 35-minutes north of Santa Barbara, you can seemingly transport yourself to a Provencal French countryside. Named after the vineyard estate’s exposed, sun-dappled shale and stones, Sunstone is a beautifully tranquil retreat where you can enjoy a glass of wine in our lavender and rosemary-filled courtyard, in our stone barrel-aging caves, or perhaps enjoy lunch at our picnic tables shaded by olive and oak trees. Whether you are new to wine or an aspiring sommelier, our wine specialists are happy to share our wines with you and answer questions. Walk-in wine tasting groups of eight or less are welcomed, and can taste a flight of 6 wines for $12 per person.
We went to Sunstone Winery on our way leaving to head home. Beautiful place of the beaten path a little which we loved! Ashly was so knowledgeable and spent time explaining the different wines. A plus is they have olive oils / balsamic vinegars Yummy! We enjoyed this winery.
The Traveling Winers on the Santa Barbara Wine Trail
What a gorgeous, elegant establishment at Sunstone Vineyards and Winery! Vineyards surround the grounds, very magnificently looking, as you walk up to the very large, stone, romantic winery room. The outside patio area is also quite large (everything is large here!) and is used often for large gatherings, parties, weddings, etc.
Inside the tasting room is also magnificent. Romantic. Plenty of space to move about. Long tasting bar. And an alcove to the side that has a kitchen area where catering can take place when scheduled. They also have a wine cellar in the back that is gorgeous! You really should go see this place! If you like their wines, maybe consider being a wine club member as they use their facilities quite frequently to entertain their members with food and drink. Sounds fun!
In 1989, the Rice’s bought this old abandoned horsefarm. After a tree fell on the horse barn they decided it was now time to build a tasting room in its place. The tasting room opened in 1994. They have 28 acres of vines planted and produce about 10,000 cases per year, sold mostly through their tasting room, wine club, and some restaurants.
Up on the top of the hill, they have this very ginormous villa that they rent out for special occasions. The Villa is 8,000 square feet, built from all reclaimed stone from France, has 5 suites and a wine door that was on the prison cell of Napoleon Bonaparte! We were given a tour of the villa grounds, but unfortunately were unable to see inside because the place was rented out and being used for a meeting of some sort. NOTE: Sorry, but there is no public access to the Villa.
All in all, Sunstone was a great stop! From the ambiance to the history, to the fun and friendliness of staff, to the great wines (oh yes, they were good!), we would highly recommend that you visit this vineyard/winery. And if you are thinking of a place for a special occasion or maybe a wedding or 50th anniversary party, this very well could be the spot!
