Large KOA. Wide turn areas. Very quiet at night. It was very hot while we were there. Use surge protector during high heat to protect your rig from surges. Hosts and hostesses very nice and accommodating. I would go back again. Close to Morro Bay, Pismo, Arroyo Grande and Hearst Castle. Lots to do! Site 45 shaded by a tree.

Great location, walking distance to Santa Margarita lake. Many trails for hiking and mountain biking. 30 minutes to the coast.

Good playground, with giant jumping pillow.

Good, clean, facilities.

Onsite Emu, which was very cool.

Exceeded expectations.

The campground was really beautiful and quiet and the facilities were well maintained. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We stayed in site 22 with our off-road caravan. The site is perfect for a small teardrop or off-road trailer like ours. Site 22 has electric and water but no sewer hookups. It is situated very close to the restrooms and showers. Perfect for our needs! The campground is about 20 minutes from Morro Bay and 30 minutes from Paso Robles. We took day trips to enjoy both areas.

Weekends are "bananas kinda busy" but we went mid week & had a great overnight stay. We arrived on a Sunday night just as 50 people/ campsites were checking out/leaving. About 3/4 of a mile from the lake on the main road (no trail to get there). About 8 miles on a 2 lane road to get to the KOA from town so get all of your provisions prior.

Very friendly staff, well kept sights that are accessed via dirt rods in the KOA & nice overall amenities - plus they have an emu named Kevin too!

Worst campsite manager ever
First let me start by saying this is my first time camping here at Santa margarita KOA. I called in reserved 21ft travel trailer rv site. Looked at map looked tucked bk so I called bk and said is it a hard site to get to they said no not at all. We show up I park in front of office can’t miss my truck and trailer. She shows us where are site is. I say is it hard to get to with a trailer. Again she says no not at all. Ok I figure she knows what she’s talking about we pay and drive up. Going up I’m thinking there’s no way trailers come up here but whatever’s were to deep now can’t turn bk. We get to our campsite again I’m thinking what were they thinking. 20min. Later l was able to back my trailer up a loose dirt and gravel road. Everything felt wrong but I’m up here parked make the best of it. We set up everything is good we start a fire all settled in. 3hrs. Later here comes not sure but he comes racing up angry. Tells us what are you doing here you shouldn’t be here pack it up move to site 29 or something. Jumps bk in his car reverses out of there fast slamming his engine on the concrete pad and takes off. We drive to the office and there he is with no compassion for what it took us just to get our trailer in to that spot and now we need to pack up and move in the dark. He says common sense you shouldn’t be up there. Mind you I have never been there before. I checked twice if it was safe they said yes. The lady checking people in said, she didn’t know no we couldn’t take trailers to that site. so if your own employees don’t know how am I supposed to know. We argue about his heartlessness and zero customer service zero compassion. In the end he says here’s your refund go somewhere else. We go bk up to pack up hookup trailer in the dark and drive down a very sketchy road all the while being watched by them. I will never be bk to this site. Every koa I’ve been to has been amazing. I feel this place needs to be taken off the koa roster. We ended up at Avila koa where they greeted us after hours and helped bk our trailer in made sure we were good to go. That’s the koa I pay for.

Alright here’s the thing; I don’t want to tell anyone how great this place is because I want to keep it all to myself. I Tent camped in late January with a 3 year old and a 1 year old, The care takers were so helpful. They made sure we were well taken care of the entire time gave us recommendations on this to do and was up to date on local knowledge. They made a long travel up the coast with kids much more relaxing.

A hidden gem! Loved this place. It's very quiet and the wildlife around here is spectacular. Also, don't be surprised to find ferrel cats among your campsite at night.
