“fun and hip bar”
Playland was a 10-acre seaside amusement park located next to Ocean Beach at the western edge of San Francisco, California along the Great Highway where Cabrillo and Balboa streets are now. It began as a collection of amusement rides and concessions in the late 19th century, and was known as Chutes At The Beach as early as 1913. It closed Labor Day weekend in 1972. In those earlier times, San Francisco was quickly becoming the playground of the entire West coast and since then has been on the forefront of entertainment & nightlife. Playland-At-The-Beach was one of the main attractions of the city and was THE place to be; whether you were enjoying one of their many rides & rollercoasters or getting dressed up and going dancing at Topsy’s Roost Restaurant & Nightclub, Playland was never short on fun. The name of the new bar on Polk Street pays homage to San Francisco’s rich history while the location offers entertainment reminiscent of the past and a new perspective looking forward.
