The best place to watch seals sleeping! Seriously though as the banner picture shows, Pier 39 is home to hundreds of Seals. It's location right next to Fisherman's Wharf makes this a good spot to enjoy lunch while tossing your leftovers to the seals.
Get ready for a nauseating amount of children on sugar highs. It's worth pushing through the crowds to see some very unique shops such as a magic store, a left-handed-products store, and an awesome kite shop!
I had fun here, I felt the aquarium was pretty small but luckily I had paid for a bunch of places at once when I got my tickets to Alcatraz and saved a lot on the sights, that made everything the right price!
A must see when visiting San Francisco. There's tons of great places to grab some food or buy interesting things. My personal favorite is the left-handed shop that as you guessed, only sells things for left-handed people like myself. The seals in one of the pictures above are also really unique and worth stopping for a quick pic. The pier can be windy depending on the time of year so plan accordingly. Finally, parking sucks. It's either limited and/or very expensive. Take a taxi if you can.
So many cute shops! Great food and great weather.
Lots of people and smells. Despite that, it's strangely interesting to watch the seals swim, sleep, and sun themselves.
Really enjoyed spending time here. Lots of little shops to wander through with amazing scenery everywhere you look. Yup, it is tourist central. Some stores have more than one location on the Pier which was annoying. The little things made it for me though. The shrubs sculpted into seahorses or a full nautical scene were amazing. For a spectacular view of Colt Tower, about half way down the pier on the 2nd level, on the bridge to the other side, look back towards the entrance of the pier. The carousel is cool too. For me the absolute best; I left me wallet on a garbage can on a Sunday night. I got it back Monday with absolutely everything in it.
We had a lot of fun here! If you're going to do the aquarium make sure you get the bundle deals. You get more for your money!!!

It was a lot of fun watching and taking pictures of the sea lions! The shopping area is fun to walk around and they have the typical touristy shops and restaurants. They have a cool musical staircase you can walk up and down and a very pretty carousel. You can also see Alcatraz from the dock area. Very well maintained and the flowers are pretty (they have a tulip festival in February).
