“Attractions in Salt Lake City, UT”

Claude Rex Nowell, also known as Corky King, Corky Ra, and Summum Bonum Amon Ra (November 2, 1944 – January 29, 2008), was the founder of Summum, a 501(c)(3), philosophical and religious organization that practices a modern form of mummification which has become known worldwide. In 1978, Nowell began construction of a pyramid that would be used as a winery to produce Summum Soma Nectar.[4] Despite Utah's strict liquor laws and the rigid controls it places on alcoholic beverages, a Utah law allowed him to establish the winery provided the wine was used for religious purposes.[6] The winery was finally established in 1980 and is one of a very few in the state of Utah.[7] The Soma Nectar is also referred to as Nectar Publications and are used in a practice of meditation for the purpose of developing mystical potentials.

The Summum Pyramid is pretty cool looking, it is in a nice, fenced property. However, it is just across the street from I-15, in a more industrial area and has a neighborhood west of it that some call "the bad part of town", but really it's just a place with lots of lower income residents. I feel safe walking around in the area.

followers of Summem believe beings from outer space (who they call the Summem Individuals) came to Corky Ra and gave him teaching that would improve the spiritual life of mankind. They used to have their philosophies on their web page, and among other teachings, it contained teachings from the ancient Egyptians, mixed with mystical traditions from India (mostly from the Bagwan Rashnish). They no longer list their teachings on their web page. (http://www.summum.us/about/purpose.shtml)

In their pyramid, they make wine (which they call Nectar Publications) which is used in their rituals and initiatioins.

Their most well known practice is their mumification procedures. To date, I believe only one human has been mummified, Corky Ra himself, who died in 2008. I believe other than Corky, they have only mummified pets.

Definitely not the best hood. Beware of the homeless camp next door.
But otherwise a really neat site to see. The pyramid and yard are well maintained.
