“Unmatched Craft Beer in Salt Lake!”
WASATCH BEERS was formed when Greg Schirf found his way to Utah from Milwaukee, America's beer capital, only to discover that his newly adopted home state did not have a brewery of its own. Recognizing a need and an opportunity, he committed to rectify this situation. In 1986, Schirf opened the first brewery in the resort town of Park City and named his beers after the majestic Wasatch Mountains that rise just east of Salt Lake City. In July 1989, Schirf the first brew pub in Utah at the top of historic Main Street in Park City.In fact, it was Schirf who proposed the bill to the Utah Legislature in 1988 that would make brew pubs legal in Utah. There are now more than 14 thriving pubs and breweries in the state thanks to Schirf. SQUATTERS founding partners Peter Cole and Jeff Polychronis followed the American brew pub revolution from the beginning in the early 1980's. The pair undertook a yearlong pub crawl, sampling beers throughout the west. With a swill and a swallow and after many nights of great appreciation of beer, they decided it was time that Salt Lake had a brew pub of its own.Squatters Pub Brewery opened for business on September 5, 1989 at 147 West Broadway in downtown Salt Lake. In 2000 they opened a second location at the Salt Lake International Airport; Squatters Roadhouse Grill and Pub opened in the resort community of Park City in October 2006.Squatters has maintained a strong commitment to community and social values and in addition to supporting local non-profit organizations. In January 2004 SLBC received Salt Lake City's e2 Business status and received the Environmental Company of the Year Award from the Recycling Coalition of Utah.
