“360 degree views!”
Spiral Drive was built in 1922 by the Lions Club, Warden Capp, and civic-minded citizens of Salida. The road spirals around Tenderfoot Mountain until it reaches the top, where there is a gazebo that overlooks the town and surrounding area. From 600 feet above the streets below, the view of Salida, the Arkansas River Valley, the Sangre de Christo and Collegiate ranges of mountains is incredible. A giant 80ft by 50ft letter "S" was created out of rocks by the Salida High School senior class of 1932, with the help of fellow Salidans. The dirt road is also popular amongst adventurous runners, bikers and walkers.
