“A quick trip through natural beauty”
It's a quick tour nice family stop. There is an antique mall attached to gift shop. The gift shop feels old, but I doubt they make money hand over fist there. A quick trip through the caverns will leave you gasping in awe at the all natural beauty of the Dixie Caverns.

Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on December 11, 2022We have been to many caverns caves and mines. This was certainly not the best of the bunch but it held our attention and there was plenty to look at. Pretty cool. The campground is ok…..easy pull thru spots, nothing to write home about but electric was great, WiFi was good and it was pretty level
The caverns themselves were kind of neat, but wished we could've done the tour without the guide. Lots of thinly veiled (or not so thinly) conservative comments (such as "They don't make men like they used to") sprinkled throughout the whole thing followed by "You're in Tennessee, we tell you what we think." I think we only learned one or two facts from the tour that we found genuinely interesting.
We stayed at Dixie Caverns July 1, 2023 it is good for a one night lay over nothing more!
Price was $40 plus tax a night full hook up. Each side had picnic table and fire pit. The bathrooms were terrible! Dirty no soap or paper towels to wash and wipe your hands! Also there was no laundry facility.
The gift shop was amazing had many gifts to choose from. We did not tour the caverns so I can’t give a review on that. I would give this place 3 star review.
This place is run down. There are campers on site that are covered in ivy. They weed whacked all close to our things, moving chairs etc. and left trimmings covering everything. BUT, it's close to relatives for us and great bus people (Sawyer) so it's essential. Right between 2 highways (1 major, 81)

This is really the only place close to Roanoke. We are here visiting friends, otherwise we would not have picked it. We can't put our awning out without touching the rig next to us. No place to set up chairs outside. Very close to 81. Might be ok for an overnight.

Cost approximate. Site did not feel safe. Many units old and slovenly. Was fairly quiet. Bathrooms locked.

All of our hookups worked great. Felt safe at all times. We left our grill and bikes and other stuff out with no problem. Staff SUPER friendly. Very quiet. Some road noise but it did not bother us. Everyone was very respectful to everyone else. VERY small sites. This is a place to park your camper and go explore the great outdoors and all the area has to offer. The sites are so small there isn’t much room to do much more than sit at the picnic table. A little too close for our comfort for a fire. We felt the campground was well maintained. There are some older units...but didn’t really focus on them. Would definitely stay here again. Bring your own activities for the kids. Bathrooms were closed. Conveniently located. Trash picked up regularly. Super friendly staff.

We've been to this campground many times as we have family in Salem, VA. It's close enough to town to get somewhere quickly without actually being in town. Everything works and is in good repair. The spaces are a bit close together but plenty long for big rigs. Basically you probably can't put your awning all the way out.
Cell/data service is good and their WiFi, while unsecured, is quite good... just make sure your firewalls are in place. In short, there's plenty of bandwidth available.
If you're overly sensitive about noise, then there may be a problem, but for most people it should be fine.
There are garbage cans at every site and the fire rings and picnic tables tend to be placed towards the front of the grassy area so that you can use them without feeling cramped in between the RVs.
There are a couple of good dog parks in the area, along with tubing, golf and the Appalachian trail.

Easy on/off art 81. Altho this is very close to the highway, we stayed at a site away from it and closer to the entrance. Staff was very friendly. We booked a Monday night stay, then decided we would rest another night. The staff is closed Tues and Wed., they said just stay then call us on Thursday to pay for the other night! Who does that on an honor system? Yes it was a little noisy from the trucks on Rt. 81 but we were far enough away it didn’t bother us. Many people live there year round so I suppose they got used to the noise. Caverns and everything closed due to Covid, except gift shop where office is.
I would recommend this place.

This park is right off I81 (Exit 132 in Virginia) and is easy to access. The staff was very friendly and the hookups adequate, sites easily accessible.
Why I say it's not a destination is the noise of 81 is constant but tolerable and there are several poorly maintained full time sites that take away from the overall clean appearance.
It is however a great stop over site to get some rest for the road weary traveler and worth the stop. There is a great gas station and Which Wich sandwich shop next door and a Walmart, Harbor Freight and more 10 minutes away.
